Help Build a Library in Zambia

Donation protected
Imagine what it would be like to go to school hungry. Now imagine what it would be like to have to walk 9 miles on a hungry stomach. That was the reality for the children in Magalela Village. The community finally said enough was enough when a little boy in first grade drowned in a flooded river while trying to go to school.

Thanks to the help of generous donations and the work of the Peace Corps, the school was built in 2015. Just last summer, former Peace Corps volunteer on the project, Camillia Freeland-Taylor, ventured back out to the village of Magalela, Zambia, to build teacher housing. Despite these strong strides, there is much more work to be done! The children don't have desks and currently sit on the floor in the classroom. The community is also in desperate need of a library to help the children learn how to read and have the basic resources for a solid education. There are currently 82 students attending this school in preschool and first grade.

This summer, 10th grade student Hugo Carney, 7th grade student Della Carney, and former Peace Corps volunteer Camillia Taylor will travel back to the town of Magalela, Zambia to properly utilize the funds gathered in this camaign, and build a lasting library to further the education of the boys and girls in the village. Please help do your part in furthering these children's education.

Our goal this year is to raise $7,000. The school need 41 desks and to build a library filled with books for the children to learn. The foundation for a three bedroom teacher's house

Here's how you can help! If you would like to buy a desk it is $65 for a desk that will fit two children-- on the bottom on the desk we can put up to 40 character text (for example, "In loving memory of Jane Doe"). Please send a message and/or post saying you would like the funds you donate to be designated to a desk and what you would like you message to say.

Or you can donate to the Magalela Library. The community will be donating bricks, pit sand, river sand, and labor, but there are items such as windows, window glass, doors, door frames, roofing, cemenet, book shelves, and books that the community can't afford. Even a little bit of money here goes a long way in Zambia.  We will document the trip and provide details as we go, and will give you a complete accounting as to where your money went, and how much it helped!

You can probably tell, but my sister and I are very excited about this trip and the mission. Please get in touch with any questions at all. Thank you for your donation!
