Build a Barn for Bonnie

Hi to all our wonderful supporters,
As we approach the end of the year our attention turns as always to our annual Christmas Appeal. However this year our focus has been directed to the urgent and immediate plight of one of our most recent arrivals, a beautiful young mare called Bonnie.
Bonnie was relinquished to us by owners who had failed to call the vet in to alleviate her suffering when she became stiff, sore and almost immobile. They chose to self diagnose a case of laminitis which they felt would pass but unfortunately Bonnie was suffering from Lyme disease following a tick bite.
Bonnie's physical condition requires her to occupy a stable by herself which is putting extreme pressure on the sanctuary with so many needy animals arriving at our doors.
In short Bonnie's situation has brought a situation that we are only too aware to the fore, i.e. the lack of a designated isolation, convalescence or 'hospital' barn.
Therefore it is our hope this year to raise as much as possible towards the building of a new 'hospital wing' in 2018.

Over the course of last winter we struggled to a degree with the same situation in relation to Timmy and his Mum Twilight.  However, they were able to share a space and eventually do so with other donkeys while it is likely that Bonnie's health will take even longer to restore and there is just no way that she can share space with another animal.

On a final note we can happily report that Timmy is doing extremely well as he continues to receive treatment for his condition. He has enjoyed a wonderful summer with his Mum in the paddocks and stands quietly dozing in his  cosy stable as I write this. 
He is an inspiration to us all here at the sanctuary and he motivates us to strive to provide a greater level of care to all our current residents and those who are yet to find their way to safety ..
