We are asking you to make an investment in art in the community, to help start a cooperative that will enable artists to survive and thrive by keeping more of what they earn by organizing their own community shows, thus not paying 50% commissions to galleries and exhorbitant table rents at ill-targeted charity events.
We are not even asking for outright donations. We just need to raise some cash now. We are willing to pay back in art. Every donation will be answered with a thank you email which will function as a coupon for an equivalent discount off any purchase at my website www.shoutforjoy.net or selected merchandise at the Perkasie Fun-A-Day on Feb. 3, 2018.
It's the old story of the starving artist. My wife and I lost our house to foreclosure last year after I had 6 strokes and 42 TIAs, and open heart surgery for aortic valve replacement. These were all complications from an infection that I picked up on the street while serving the homeless. Then I had a catastrophic reaction to the antibiotic. The positive result is that, before the strokes I couldn't paint a straight line. Now, people say my portraits capture people's essence.
My wife and I started Perkasie Rocks to promote art in the community. It has been very well received. We started that on April 20, 2017. Six months later, we have over 500 members and Perkasie Rocks have been found in over 40 states, plus Mexico, Canada and France!
I started Bucks County Artists Cooperative to further promote art and help artists keep more of what they earn. We have not incorporated yet because we have no money. We have no display racks for shows. We have no money for advertising for shows or recruiting. I am on disability and my wife is now on unemployment.
We just need a little startup money to incorporate, buy the PVC and canvas to build display racks for our first big event in January: 2018 Perkasie Fun-A-Day, advertise, and recruit more artists, to build a strong, vibrant artistic community, that can promote and provide art education throughout Bucks County, and beyond.
Meanwhile, I am painting a carousel animal a day since October 16, 2017 through January 31, 2018 to promote Perkasie Fun-A-Day. (That's 108 carousel critters!)
Your seed money can make a world of difference for us and for this community! Arts funding has been slashed in schools, yet the arts are what defines a people or nation as civilized or savage. Please be kind, and help us stand in the gap to create some beauty and promote truth in these dark times.
