A sweet, full-of-life, princess-loving, 2.5 year old was diagnosed with a brain tumor early last Sunday morning following a hospital visit that we thought was for the stomach flu. Later we find that the brain tumor is an Ependymoma – a rare cancer accounting for only 9% of pediatric cancers & affects only 200 people in the US each year.
Our Brynn has brain cancer. A simple phrase with words too hard for our family to comprehend. It just can’t be true.
For those of you that don’t know, Jessica & Jeremy were high school sweethearts. They met working at Newport Creamery and married in 2007. A few years after, they were devastated by news that they only had a 5% chance of ever having children together. However, keeping strong faith, they found out they were six months pregnant in August 2011 with a healthy baby boy, Braeden Edward. A true miracle. In June 2014, their second miracle – Brynn Emilia – was born. They were absolutely blessed.
Jessica & Jeremy are both active members of their community & their children’s lives. Jeremy works at a business in their town and also coaches soccer teams for Braeden and plans to be coaching Brynn’s team next season as well. Jessica works as a child clinician in many communities throughout Rhode Island. For them to defy all odds, be blessed with two beautiful children & also be such great people in their everyday lives, it is just so hard to believe something like this is happening to their happy family. It completely breaks our hearts.
Since we learned of Brynn’s diagnosis, it has been a whirlwind of what seems like endless days full of procedures, neurological tests, MRIs, CT scans, horrific conversations & a nine-hour brain surgery. Brynn Emilia is currently in the PICU at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Her surgery was very successful as there is no sign of the tumor remaining. She also has fully recovered from Ondine’s Curse which should not have been reversible…Brynn is determined to beat this!!
However, her fight is not over and her family needs more help. They’re going to be facing medical bills, amongst countless other physical, emotional as well as financial challenges in the next days, months and years to come. Every penny raised will help take on this life challenge and getting Brynn & her family the support they need.
Brynn has made INCREDIBLE progress so far! The next big hurdle is a spinal tap on February 28th which will tell us if the cancer has metastasized in her spinal fluid and will determine what her next steps will look like. With all the prayers and support we have received thus far, we strongly believe this is NOT the case for her.
Please help support Brynncess the Brave – our strong, warrior princess – and her family. Your positive thoughts, prayers and contributions along with Brynn’s strength gives us all hope that she will overcome this battle.
