Bring Bryant Purvis to Shreveport

Donation protected
LATEST NEWS: Bryant Purvis will also speak to the general public. Please mark your calendars. Friday, June 30, 5 p.m. Shreve Memorial - Downtown. 424 Texas Street. Books for sale at $10.  Facebook event is https://www.facebook.com/events/1975105172709705

Bryant Purvis, motivational speaker, author, and entrepreneur, will give teens attending the summer program at Airport Community Center a firsthand account of navigating the youth justice system. Bryant will tell students of his harrowing experiences in youth justice and how that has impacted his life since. This will be an invaluable educational experience for students, one they are not likely to forget.

Bryant Purvis says he wrote My Story as a Jena 6 “to get the truth out about what happened” on December 4, 2006, in Jena, Louisiana.

“When I was seventeen years old, I was charged with attempted murder. It was a crime I did not commit; in fact, I wasn't even in the room when it happened. But I was soon implicated as a conspirator, and from that moment on, my life changed forever."

In order to bring this experience to students, we need to raise $1,100 to cover Bryant’s travel and speaking fees. If 55 of you can contribute $20 each, we will have it covered!

Bryant will bring copies of his book and will apply a portion of his fee to the purchase of books to give away to students.

One of my high school students has already arranged for a local lawyer, Carlos Prudhomme, to speak about Teen Court, a program of Volunteers for Youth Justice. This program gives non-violent offenders the chance to redirect their path. “Caddo’s Teen Court has consistently demonstrated a recidivism rate of less than 5% – an indication that 95% of Teen Court defendants who successfully completed their sentences avoided further court involvement.” More info at https://www.vyjla.org/program/teen-court/

Prudhomme and Purvis will both speak to students on June 30 at 1 p.m. and answer their questions about the criminal justice system.

Please contribute to this effort so that our students can learn about the justice system in the state of Louisiana.

**Anyone from the general public wishing to attend the Airport presenation at 1 p.m. please contact me by June 14. We must submit a guest list.**

You may also see Bryant speak on Friday, June 30, 5 p.m. Shreve Memorial - Downtown. 424 Texas Street. Books for sale at $10.
