Have a Heart for Kim

My name is Kim Harris, and I was born with a combination of heart defects. At birth, the doctors told my parents I woundn't survive for long. At five years old the doctors shrugged and said they don't know how long I would survive. The doctors expressed hope that there would be something they could do for me when I did start to get sick. At 14 I had my first major open heart surgery to correct just one part of the heart defect. I'm not sure I understood, at that young age, how big this was. Cardioligists and proceedures were just a part of life for me.  It was at that time that I also had my first pace maker implanted.  It was not all smooth sailing after that surgery though, as it created other problems and I ended up with a "leaky valve". To solve this problem I had my second open heart surgery at 16 to have a mechanical valve implanted. That was january 1987.
For the next 18 years my condition was stable. I had many pacemaker battery pack surgeries and learned to manage my medications but life was not all about my heart condition.
I worked in film with IATSE in Set Decoration and Props.
I loved being on set which meant I worked extra long hours and my health was not an issue. I prided myself on being able to lift the heavy furniture, something I can only dream about today.
In 2005 I had a heart attack at work, and since then my life has slowly returned to being all about my heart condition again. Doctors and procedures are again just a normal part of life for me.
This time there is a surgery avaliable and that's a heart transplant. Unfortunatly my wonderticker can't go much further.
But here's the thing: I've been on the transplant list since Feb 13 2014, over 2 years. I havent been well enough to work, and I wont be able to return to work for at least a year after. I was convinced (grudgingly) by my friends to start this GoFundMe so that during my year (or longer) of recovery I'll be able to concentrate on getting better, and not worry constantly about having money for even the most basic of neccesities.
