Brooklyn’s 670G Insulin Pump

My name is Becky. I am fundraising for my daughter Brooklyn. She is a beautiful, young, amazing, advocate, warrior and fighter against type 1 diabetes and she is my hero! I am doing this go fund me for her new 670G insulin pump that we have to have $1200.00 for upfront. Type 1 Diabetes is a sickening disease! It’s where the body does not produce enough insulin anymore to make a long story short. Our bodies will die without insulin. She is 17 1/2 years old. I have seen her over come things that not even I myself or other adults could overcome with a smile! Her diabetic story begins April 21, 2008 just 21 days after her 8th birthday. As her mom I knew something just wasn’t right with her back then. Her routine physical turned into hearing something I never wanted to hear about my baby girl, Brooklyn had ketones in her urine and they needed to do a finger prick to see if she had type 1 diabetes. I remember crying and telling the pediatrician no maybe it’s someone else’s pee. Why my baby girl! She started out by doing about 5 or more shots a day for 1 year then we switched to a one touch ping insulin pump!! She has been on insulin pump since she was 9. This was even harder one type of insulin means she could go into dka faster which could mean a diabetic coma faster than two types of insulin! Omg I felt like our daughters life was out of my hands and my control almost 24 hours a day 7 days a week!! It has been a very hard 9 1/2 years living with type 1 diabetes for her and us! We have had to become her voice, her advocate, her parents that would fight to no prevail for our Little girl! She does have a continuous glucose meter which does help her “catch” her highs and lows before they are in a life threatening stage-sometimes her cgm can be 20 min behind her real blood sugar which means Brooklyn has been 25 when the cgm says she is 85 or 100. See her body is really sensitive to insulin so we have to be extremely careful to not give her too much or she crashes very low very fast. Since she had Bell’s Palsy in 8th grade all of her senses for her diabetes are gone. She does not sweat or shake for a low ever. She has low unawareness. This is very scary for her and us beyond belief! She could die in her sleep if she doesn’t wake up to treat a low. With this new pump she will never have another low it stops the insulin! Wow this is going to be amazing! Her autoimmune deficiencies don’t stop there she also had alopechia areata a year to day almost of her Bell’s palsy. She had 3 huge bald spots on her head...how did I not know I am her mom! She’s in basketball, the girls fix each other’s hairs, she a little girl with long beautiful hair, what the heck! She went through 6 months of steroid shots in her head 17 in the first day! This is what she wanted to help her hair grow back in. I cried, she cried omg wow! Steroids make blood sugars higher than high she ran 400-500 blood sugar for 5-6 days and her pain well let’s just leave it at this! Since the 9 1/2 years we have only dreamed of an artificial pancreas well this is a machine that’s like an artificial pancreas. She is a senior in high school now! She fights every day for her life! She went to Congress this past summer with 164 other type 1s and told them why we need a cure for type 1 diabetes and why the SDP is so important to all type 1s! She helps other families and kids with type 1! We have raised over $35,000 for Jdrf! We do support our daughter in everything in life especially her diabetes! This is the #1 brand insulin pump! She needs this pump! This new pump makes corrections automatically on its own for her body wow and it will keep her glucose levels in range day and night! She will be graduating soon and this new insulin will help her in college, with her driving because she goes low driving also, it will help her in her everyday life!
