Broken Filling / Root Canal

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Em and I'm in need of dental work, primarily concerning the need for a root canal resulting from a broken filling, and a cavity that has gone way too deep.

People in my life will be the first to tell you that I absolutely will not ask for help for anything. I like to live my life depending on myself, and helping others. I have to break this habit because I cannot deal with the throbbing pain I am experiencing.

I refrained from visiting a dentist even though I suspected I had a cavity, due to finances. Then one day while eating a snack at work I felt a crunch, and discovered a tooth filling broke. I've been experiencing some pain, but I've been able to deal by just letting the uncomfortableness pass, and by taking some Advil.

That all changed this past week. I've had bouts of throbbing pain that last from anywhere between a minute to ten minutes. I finally set an appointment up to get seen next week.

Then Thursday night (7/20) the pain was so intense I couldn't sleep. I went to work Friday morning, and lasted only three hours because I couldn't function properly and had to keep myself still in the offices and break room, drenched in sweat. The only physical pain I've ever endured greater than this is when I have kidney stones.

I found a dentist nearby who was available to see me. After a checkup, it was deemed necessary that I require a root canal and crown, and other procedures. The primary concern at the moment is the root canal. The cavity is so deep that Crown lengthening is needed. What is crown lengthening you might ask?

"Crown lengthening is done using local anesthesia. ... In some cases, simply removing a little gum tissue will expose enough tooth for your dentist to place a crown or filling"

It's so close to my jaw bone, that without crown lengthening the crown may simply not stick over time. The dentist wants to save my tooth, and not have to remove it entirely and/or give me an implant.

You can imagine how terrifying this is for me.

Then I'm presented with the financial portion of all this. Just to do the root canal and crown lengthening alone (without the additional procedures I need) is over $2,000. My expression said it all and the dental office knew what stress was directly placed on my shoulders.

I live paycheck to paycheck. I didn't qualify for Care Credit, which would allow me to pay in installments with zero interest for 18 months. I can't put a $500 down payment, and then immediately pay the remainder right after. I literally broke down in tears, because I can't afford to take my pain away. My dental insurance simply will not cover this. The only thing the dentist could do was to prescribe me ibuprofen to help with the pain until I come up with the necessary funds.

For once I'm asking for help, because I don't know how long it will take me to raise the initial $2,000. I don't know how long I'll be in pain before I can get the procedures.

I can't eat without being in pain. I can't sleep. I can't call out from work.

Ive never done anything like this before. I feel embarassed to even ask, but this is the last resort. Anything will help.

With appreciation,
Em
