Bring Yoga to Schools!

"If you get the inside right, the outside will fall into place." Eckhart Tolle. Mindful practices are being used more and more to reduce the stresses of teachers and students. The quality of a teacher's work or a student's learning greatly increases when the people involved have a positive mindset to support the burden of everyday stressors. Breathe for Change  is an organization dedicated to supporting and training educators on how to support their staff and students through wellness programs such as mindfulness and yoga. The training is a 16-day intensive program that happens Saturdays & Sundays every other weekend from January to April. 

Upon completion of the program I will be certified to lead wellness programs for my entire school and community. These programs could be full-staff introductory workshops, on-site weekly wellness classes, and/or implementation of a holistic wellness practice and age-appropriate
classroom integration for students. Completing the Breathe For Change teacher training program will benefit myself, my students, my colleagues and my school community.

My resource room encompasses students from kindergarten through grade five with identified special learning needs. All of the students at my school would benefit from a social emotional learning program focused on mindfulness and wellness through yoga.

Due to the pressures of our current education system and the competitiveness of human nature, it's easy for all the students at my school to sometimes feel overwhelmed about learning. As a teacher, it is my job to make sure students never feel overwhelmed about learning, and always have a positive attitude towards school and life. Breathing techniques, dance breaks and kindness activities are just some ways I try to encourage positivity in my classroom. With this intesnive 16-day training, I will be able to implement many more effective wellness strategies and programs.
