Bring Yamie Home

(This message was beautifully written by extended family on behalf of Jamie and Julie Addie)

Jamie (or Yamie as his wife calls him) has been in the hospital since February 2, 2016. He was initially admitted for a bowel obstruction, and underwent immediate emergency surgery. After two weeks, when he showed no signs of improvement, his surgeon decided to perform another operation. During that operation, his surgeon found an abnormal amount of intestinal scar tissue. It was so severe, that any attempt to remove the excess scar tissue only created more holes in Jamie’s small intestine. Jamie spent the following two months undergoing over 20 additional procedures to try and remedy his condition. This was ultimately unsuccessful, and he was transferred to the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) in April under the care of a new specialized surgical team. Since being moved to UCH, Jamie has been in and out of ICU for deteriorating health, and also had to endure a number of painful and traumatizing procedures. Sadly, Jamie still requires extensive intestinal surgery, but the surgical team has said they will not even consider operating until August, at minimum.

Since Jamie is the sole provider for him, his wife Julie, and their 3-year-old daughter Hayden, they must rely on Jamie's disability insurance for all expenses, which is only a fraction of his regular income. And even though Jamie has insurance, his out-of-pocket medical bills have already reached over $30,000. This number will unfortunately only continue to grow as Jamie will remain under hospital care through most of this year.

Here’s what’s amazing about Jamie… Despite months of constant pain and suffering, not being home with his wife and daughter, and not being able to eat since February, he still finds a reason to be grateful every single day. His positivity is mind blowing. When people ask him what they can do for him, he says, “Be happy, and live life!” On top of this, Jamie’s wife Julie has been a rock star at caring for their daughter Hayden all by herself, especially considering Hayden is special needs and requires extensive day-to-day care.

Please take a moment and donate to this wonderful family. Any amount big or small would mean so much to them, and it would help tremendously. We want Jamie to focus on healing, and to not have to worry about whether his family is taken care of. Jamie and Julie believe in the power of positive energy, so if a donation is not an option, please share this message, so we can all send our love, energy, and supportive thoughts to Jamie and his family.

Since Julie calls Jamie “Yamie,” we hold in our hearts #YAMIESTRONG.
