Bringing The Macau Greyhounds Home
Donation protected
For decades Australian racing greyhounds were being sold and sent to Macau to race at the notorious Canidrome . Not one greyhound ever came out of that 'hell hole ' alive until recently when , after years of campaigning by animal protection group ANIMA and others from across the globe, this mega gambling venue was finally closed down leaving the greyhounds abandoned and trapped behind the bars that imprisoned them in their dingy cells. Over 530 sick , injured and old Australian greyhounds were found living in squalid conditions . The Australian Government and Greyhounds Australasia allowed this to happen knowing full well that Macau had no 'animal welfare or protection ' laws which saw many hundreds even thousands of mostly Australian greyhounds suffer and die needlessly.
We would like to bring just a few home and find them loving , quality homes where they are able to live out the rest of their lives as family pets . However , it is beyond what we could possibly afford when operating on a shoe string budget and no extra funding .
Whilst ANIMA will provide for their care and Yat Yuen their vet work , thegreyhounds could be in Macau for many more months until they can complete their rabies testing and receive their export permits . The remainder of the associated costs to send the greyhounds back to Australia are extensive . There are expensive veterinary examinations to be carried out once they are home as most have severe dental disease and will require multiple extractions . The only female Dunhuang Glory has a heart murmur that has been graded and she will require life time medication to keep her well ( approx $180 - $300 per month and we will need the public's help . Greyhound Rehoming Cairns and Tablelands District is one of five rescue groups in Australia ,who are all working together to bring 21 Australian greyhounds back to the country that they were born in . The remaining 500 will mostly go to the USA and to UK .
These few surviving greyhounds from The Canidrome need your help to come home and finally experience love and kindness .
GREYHOUND REHOMING CAIRNS AND TABLELANDS DISTRICT has been approved by ANIMA to adopt 5 of the 21 greyhounds coming back to Australia .
PLEASE HELP THE AUSTRALIAN GREYHOUNDS TO COME HOME ?
