InciSioN Global Surgery Symposium 2018
May, 5th & 6th 2018 - Leuven, Belgium

The InciSioN Global Surgery Symposium 2018 (IGSS2018) is the first independently organised symposium by InciSioN - International Student Surgical Network. The international symposium targets a varied and global audience of specialists, residents, and students, introducing them to the basic concepts of global surgery, its recent developments and future steps to take by both the international community and local stakeholders. Speakers include Global Surgery experts from all over the world, including surgeons, anaesthesiologists and obstetricians with both in-field and academic experience, and public health and financing experts from international organizations and civil society.

InciSioN is the largest student-run Global Surgery network with over 2,500 medical and public health students, residents and young doctors from over 70 countries working on Global Surgery. InciSioN’s work goes down to the national level through the National Working Groups, of which 20 are currently fully established in countries in all world regions. As a result, InciSioN provides a platform to contribute to the development of future generations of global surgeons, anaesthesiologists and obstetricians.

Although everyone from all corners of the world can contribute equally to the growth of Global Surgery, when it comes to conferences and international opportunities, equity sadly no longer exists. Most of our members are based in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and therefore cannot engage at the same level or access the same educational and networking events.

We are working for an equitable access to surgery wherever and whenever our patients are, but to achieve this, we want to continue to promote equity at the very core of our network as well. This is where we need your help. We want to establish a travel fund to support students, residents and young doctors from LMICs in order to attend the very first independent conference organized by InciSioN. The event will take place in Leuven, Belgium on May 5th & 6th 2018, and will be a cornerstone in educating the future generation of global surgeons, anaesthesiologists and obstetricians.

We hope that, thanks to your generosity, the future generation of leaders will truly be international, and truly be equal!

16 Travel Scholars from 15 different low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) & 4 continents have been awarded scholarships by InciSioN to attend #IGSS2018. We believe in placing equity at the core of our work and conference, and are extremely grateful for all speakers and donors for supporting this initiative.

That being said, as a young non-profit student organization, InciSioN is doing all they can to make this possible at IGSS2018.

Please consider to continue supporting us and spreading the word, because your support WILL make a difference in LMIC students' and residents' careers. IGSS2018 is becoming the most global Global Surgery conference so far, with 34 different nationalities already registering for the event and bringing together Global Surgery experts from 5 different continents as speakers, thus providing a unique and invaluable experience for all those able to attend.

Thank you for helping us bring equity into surgery, little by little and step by step.

From Belgium with love,

IGSS2018
