Bring Night Garden to the stage
Please note: we can also accept donations via E-transfer to firstname.lastname@example.org (this will not incur any fees for us) and we will add them to the GoFundMe total as an "offline donation" so you can still see how your donation helps us reach our goal!
Our goal of $4,500 will mean all of our base expenses will be covered and all dancers will receive a fair honorarium for their performance. We would be very happy to reach this goal!
Our dream goal of $15,000 would mean paying our dancers properly for all of their expenses and hard work: creating, choreographing, rehearsing and traveling to create this show. With this budget we could create the full lighting and projection design we originally envisioned, as well as a more workable costuming budget for our amazing local designers. It would also mean being able to pay our local stage manager, videographer and photographer their full rate. Reaching this goal would mean our ambitious vision for this show would become a reality!
Please read below for our story.
Also, this is all to bring this show to you, our amazing community! The best way you can take part in this project is to come see the show! https://alderneylanding.ticketpro.ca/?lang=en&alt#def_1312188057
As many of you know, we have been working together for well over a year on Night Garden, our most exciting project yet. (March 30 and 31 at Alderney Landing Theatre!) Monique and Laura were honoured to receive a grant from Arts Nova Scotia, and Nawal from ArtsNB, to help create some of the choreographic works for this show.
However we are sad to say that our multiple applications for funding for the production phase have not been successful. Bellydance is still gaining recognition in the local arts community, and as this is our first attempt at a production of this level, this is not completely unexpected. However, we are hoping that the work we create for this show will build a case for funding in the future!
Although our budget is modest, there are many expenses in a stage production such as this. We have passionately worked for over a year, designing this show from the ground up - including the overall structure, choreographies, costumes, and lighting. Sacha and Nawal have been driving for hours nearly every month to rehearse with us here in Halifax. With all this work, we are hoping that this will be the first in long road of high-level theatrical bellydance productions in the Maritimes, and with your support, it will be possible!
We are looking for donors who would like to contribute directly our goal of taking the art of bellydance to the next level in the Maritimes, paving the road for future opportunities for bellydance artists in our region. You will also be supporting us each as growing, evolving artists who want to bring the best to our audience!
Over the last two decades we have each contributed countless hours to study, practice, teaching, and performances; producing events, providing learning opportunities from world renowned artists, and collaborating with other professionals. We have spent years actively engaging in our communities to raise the knowledge of professional bellydance; and the project is the culmination of that work.
Please visit http://www.serpentinestudios.com/night-garden-production.html for details, or visit our facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pg/nightgardenbellydance
Additionally, we are looking for companies to partner with as sponsors; complete with social media exposure for their brand and multiple advertising opportunities and benefits. If your company (or one you know of) might benefit from partnering with us, please let us know. We’d be thrilled to email our sponsorship package and/or meet up and chat about how we can benefit each other and the community.

With all of your donations and the generous support from our sponsors, we've just exceeded our goal of $4500 which means all of our expenses have been paid!
We danced our hearts out on stage last weekend during our 2-show run and were absolutely overwhelmed with the love and positive feedback we received from family and friends, as well as dancers and peers from the Maritimes and beyond!
Thank you, thank you, to everyone who supported us! This has been an amazing journey from creating the story, to choreographing and rehearsing, to costuming, to bringing it all to the stage. You have made all our work over the past two years totally worth it.
To everyone who came out to the show:
It means so much to us when people take the time (and money!) out of their hectic lived to come out to our live shows. Some of you traveled quite a distance and we were so touched! All of our work was to create a magical live experience and your response and feedback made it so worthwhile.
To our donors and sponsors:
We were absolutely floored by the amount of support we received from our community of friends, family, colleagues and beyond. It was very humbling to see that you really believe in the the work that we do and find it valuable. It's warmed our hearts and given us a lot of encouragement to keep going. We plan to keep making you proud!
To our team:
Our invaluable backstage helpers, Jen Prescott, Cheryl MacAulay and Amy MacDonald: we honestly don't know what we would have done without you! From costume logistics/repairs/upkeep to folding programs to...so many details! You were incredible and we can't thank you enough.
The team at Alderney Landing Theatre, Linda in the box office was a fountain of helpful tips and advice, and Lynn for accommodating our budget, and Thomas and Jessie, our lighting/tech maestros for bringing our vision to life.
Our skilled costume designers: Haleigh Sheehan who was incredibly patient with our crazy ideas and changing plans, especially the magical blossoming skirts that turned out so beautifully! And to the talented Celine Chiasson, Nicole Frosst and Jessica Best-Smith for their beautiful work and bringing our visions to life.
Jeremy Chipper for being not only a sponsor but our in-house promo photographer and videographer for the show! We can’t wait to see the footage! Josh Szeto, always our photographer of choice for live events, thank you for always putting up with us. :P
Our team of dancers : Working alongside these fierce ladies has been a complete honour and a pleasure. We are so grateful to each of you for ALL of your hard work, patience, talent and vision. This project was so magical because of you! #fallopstothediag4ever
If you feel inspired to support the dancers we are still gratefully accepting donations (via E-transfer to email@example.com) towards paying them a fair rate for all of their hard work and personal expenses, and towards the future of this project in additional locations! Thank you again, from the bottom of our hearts.
We are creeping closer to our goal, we are over half way there! The show date is nearly here and everything is coming together beautifully. The lighting design is nearly finalized, the music has been edited meticulously, and our costumes from Haleigh Sheehan have arrived and are gorgeous! We've been spending our weekends rhinestoning them by hand.
We just wrapped up a 3-day rehearsal marathon with the full cast at Serpentine Studios and it is so exciting to see the whole show from beginning to end! You can see a sneak peek here: https://www.facebook.com/nightgardenbellydance/videos/2310162869271181/
All of this work, while artistically rewarding, means taking significant time away from our "day jobs". We are passionate about creating this body of work to elevate the art of bellydance here in the Maritimes, but the costs do pile up - which is one of the reasons why we still need your help! We are so grateful for each one of your generous donations, and if you could share our fundraiser with family and friends we would be so thankful.
Also, if you haven't bought your tickets yet, don't delay! Sales are definitely picking up as opening night approaches: https://secure.ticketpro.ca/?lang=en#def_1312188057
Lots of love and gratitude,
The Night Garden cast
