Bring Jack Gilligan Home

On June 10, 2016 Jack went to see a Podiatrist for issues with his right foot.  He was experiencing issues over a period of a year and had gotten to the point where it was affecting his ability to walk.  The Podiatrist wanted to send Jack immediately to the hospital via ambulance.  But, for those of you who know Jack, he would have no part of that and drove himself.   After a short stay at the hospital receiving treatment for his foot, Jack was released to a rehad center for three days. Within 24 hours,  Jack's fiance Mary, found Jack staring into space and clearly not himself.  The nurse acknowledged Jack was having a stroke, and this is where the NIGHTMARE begins.

On June 17, 2016 Jack suffered his first stroke which left him partially paralzyed on his right side and unable to speak.  Jack then went back into the hospital.  On June 19, 2016 , Jack suffered a second stroke which left him completely paralyzed on his right side and unable to swallow which impacted his ability to eat and drink. On August 8, 2016 Jack celebrated his 55th birthday in the nursing home.

After being in rehab the last six months, Jack has regained some movement in his right leg, has a clear understanding of who people are, can understand gestures,  can swallow and enjoy all his favorite foods. Although Jack has made some progress, he still has a very long journey ahead of him. Jack is still unable to stand, walk, move his right arm, and is still unable to speak.

On August 12, 2016,  Jack's insurance, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Connecticut, dropped his coverage claiming Jack was not making significant progress and he had plateaued. As a result of this, Mary and Jack have incurred extensive medical expenses to ensure Jack continues to receive the treatment he needs in order to improve to the point he can be released from the nursing home and GO HOME.

In order for Jack to be discharged, he needs continued physical, occupational and speech therapy so he meets medical requirements for home release.  In addition, Jack and Mary's raised ranch house needs extensive renovations to make it wheel chair accessible.

All the money raised will go directly to Jack's care. The money will be used for medical services, including the critical therapy needed for Jack's improvement, nursing home room and board, medications, necessary equipment (such as  chair lift), transportation to and from Dr. appointments and home renovations.

Three years ago Jack retired from Corrections.  He is known for his quick wit, generosity and ability to make everyone laugh.  Our goal is to get Jack back to the Jack we all know and love.

Thank you in advance for your prayers and support!
