Our lovely caring childminder Tory has a heart that is just too soft and it is going to bankrupt her if she isn't careful!
When she recently went to Croatia on holiday with her family, she stayed in a little rural villa at the same time as a young stray pregnant dog decided to take up residence in a hollow tree in the garden in order to give birth to a litter of 4 beautiful pups.
The family spent the fortnight watching the little rascals grow and fell in love with them and their mum.
When Tory and her family came to leave the villa she asked what was going to happen to the pups. The owner of the villa said he would try to home them but if they got too big and no homes found then they would go to the local pound. The problem is that Croatia is overrun with strays - generally they are poisoned at the end of the season to control their numbers, the dog compounds are overrun and have very little money to feed them and so they are expected to survive on a diet of bread and water. Generally dogs get sick and get put down.
Two weeks after coming home Tory spent sleepless nights worrying about the young pups and their mother. She found out from the owner that he hadn't found them a home and so they were going to have to go the compound. She decided that she was going to do whatever it takes to give them a proper home and has decided to bring them back to the UK.
She has already paid someone to drive all the way to Croatia, a 2400 mile round trip - he is heading there tomorrow morning, - that has cost a lot of money already, then when they get here there are all the quarantine fees and vaccinations etc etc and then she has to find homes for them all here and look after them in the meantime. It is a big financial commitment.
Tory is clearly adorably crazy, but she is willing to do and spend whatever it takes to give those dogs a chance, she's even talking about selling some of her personal valuables to pay for it, but we don't think she should be on her own on this. When you look at these gorgeous animals, I'm sure there are lots of you who feel the same way
We are fundraising to help contribute as much as we can to the costs of transportation, quarantine and healthcare of all five dogs so that she doesn't live to regret her wonderfully kindhearted impulses.
