Bring Yobelsey to North Park Univ.

Donation protected
Hi there! The Human Values Club is honored to launch this fundraiser for Yobelsey Benítez. Yobelsey is a student from Costa Rica who will study at North Park University, Chicago, on a full-ride scholarship. She is a wonderful person and has been working very hard studying viola to pursue her passion for music. It is her goal to one day enrich and transform communities like her own through the power of music. Although her tuition is covered, she still needs your help getting to Chicago. Please help make her dream come true by donating towards her plane ticket, student visa fee, international student fees and other living expenses. By making a donation today you are not just helping Yobelsey but also all the people that she will serve in the future. Thank you for helping us bringing Yobelsey to Chicago!!!

Here is some information about Yobelsey so you can get to know her. Thank you so much for making this happen.

-----------------
My name is Yobelsey Benítez, I am 18 years old. I was born in Nicaragua but I have lived in Costa Rica for thirteen years. My mother came to Costa Rica in pursue of new opportunities for her and for me.

All of my elementary education was done in Costa Rica, I never studied in my country of origin, not everyone has access to education there. When I finished my elementary education, I entered the public high school of Cóbano, Puntarenas; I’m about to finish my studies. One year after entering high school, in 2014 I entered to the music school in Cóbano (EMCO).

I decided to learn how to play the viola. At that time my professor was an advanced young viola student. He taught me how to read in C clef, holding the viola and the bow. He was my professor for two years. In my school the advanced students must teach the little ones and sometimes I had to teach, because there is only one teacher.

In three years I already had an acceptable level in viola and I could teach the little kids. When I had four years of playing the viola I went to Tennessee Valley Music Festival in Huntsville, Alabama; together with my music mates of the music school.

The music experience in this camp helped me realize that I want to study music, to learn more about human values, culture and all that I can share with people who live in places like Cóbano. Rural areas to share music, to improve the life quality of many children and young people and to get to know their culture.
