Hello, my name is Constance Becker. My family and I are setting up this account for my brother and his wife, Brian & Gay Fournet. After 2.5 weeks the house is still only accessible by boat. Water is receeding at the rate of just 1 inch per day and while it is no longer in the house the moisture is still doing it's damage. Time is of the essence to repair and restore their home and preserve a unique piece of living Acadiana history. The home was built in 1921 by Brian's grandparents on property where Albertson’s now sits on Johnston Street in Lafayette.The house is where they would raise their 10 children and welcome their 29 grandchildren. The old home was moved in the 70's to its present location on Lake Martin Rd. In 1996 Brian and Gay bought the property from the family and began restoration.
The Old House, in this new setting, with Brian and Gay presiding, is once again the living, breathing heart for family, inlaws, outlaws, friends-for-life or a brand new friend who converge upon this magical place where family reunions, horseback riding, kids chasing dogs chasing chickens races, clandestine farm equipment rides, swamp, bayou or backwoods adventure hikes and an unknown number of wildlife tutorials are lovingly shared for the price of a hug. This house, this home, defies the confines of just four walls and a roof. This Old House is love.
It is through their own particular brand of big-hearted dedication and ingenuity, that Brian and Gay have not just succeeded as guardians of the land and the legacy, they’ve expanded upon the simple notion of home to be, “a place for all who need what it can give, be it man or beast, friend or stranger, our arms and our home are open to you‘. All who know Brian and Gay know of their kindness, resourcefulness and joyful willingness to share, to teach, and to help all who are in need - no questions asked. This time, they need our help.
