Help Brian and Kimmie

Donation protected
This is a call out to the friends and family of Brian and Kimmie Greendahl, and their social networks.

As many of you know, Kimmie has returned home from the hospital for hospice care as she nears the end of her journey with stage four metastatic cancer, and Brian has drained every resource at his disposal, financial, physical and emotional, to care for her.  Now, they are in urgent need of our help.

Brian is self-employed, and has been unable to work, in order to care for Kimmie, and recover from his own surgeries.  His business is non-existent, his customers have had to turn elsewhere, and he still has miles to go.  Their medical issues have left them with a mountain of debt, a need for basic living costs, and upcoming final expenses  for Kimmie.  Brian deserves the grace of a mourning period as well.  Neither of them would ever dream of asking their friends for financial help, and we have constructed this GoFundMe so they don't have to.

For those that don’t know, Brian and Kimmie are longtime members of the recovery community, and met through mutual friends on social media in 2012.  In 2013 Kimmie’s 9 year old son Zaky was a casualty of a car accident, suffering traumatic brain injury. Brian and Kimmie’s relationship began when Brian drove to Oakland Children's Hospital every weekend to visit Zaky and Kimmie.  Having lost an arm in a major car accident, and one his dearest friends to suicide just a few years prior, Brian was no stranger to catastrophic loss, and was uniquely useful in his ability to help Kimmie through her pain.

In 2014, the two began their romantic relationship. Then, in February 2015, Zaky would pass away due to complications from his brain injury. The same month, Kimmie was concurrently diagnosed with breast cancer.  Kimmie mourned the death of her son while undergoing chemo and a double mastectomy.  Her treatment was successful, and she would earn a brief remission.

Meanwhile, from 2014 through 2017, Brian would endure 8 surgeries on a knee shattered sustained in a work related fall, including two total replacements.

In March of 2018, Kimmie’s respite from cancer ended, and returned - this time at stage four - incurable.  Kimmie returned to a regimen of chemo and radiation while finishing her studies ... and In June of 2019 graduated with a masters degree in social work.

In 2019 Brian had open heart surgery to replace aortic root and valve, while Kimmie has more chemo and surgery to remove her reproductive organs in an attempt to stave off the cancer.

On September 5th of this year, in a heroic act of love and faith, Brian and Kimmie were married in the backyard of her sponsor Janice Mitchell’s house, witnessed by their children, grandchildren, family and friends. There was not a dry eye in the house, and everyone who loves them danced in the sunlight of their romance.

Their happiness was cut short, however, and Kimmie was admitted to the hospital the very next day, where she left and returned several times. She has now returned home for hospice care and the last leg of her journey.

If you have made it this far in this story, you are no doubt in shock at the level of suffering they’ve both endured. Kimmie is near the end of hers, and Brian’s is just beginning.

Those of us who have witnessed their love, their selflessness, generosity and their recovery are so grateful to be part of their lives.  These two have devoted their lives to alleviating the suffering of others.  We hope that you will join us in supporting them... Your generous donation of any amount will give them a measure of peace in this season of intense grief and suffering, and will benefit them directly.

We also respectfully request that you share this with your network as well, as we are sure that all who read this story will be moved to offer their assistance as well.  On behalf of Brian, Kimmie, and the entire family, we thank you in advance for your selfless generosity.
