Brent Mulholland's Family

Brent Mulholland was a father of two. Victoria 8 and Bennett 5. He was a loving husband to Angie for 10 years. And much much more to everyone that knew him. It is absolutely heartbreaking and unfair that he has passed away. Right now we could all use some of his goofy sarcasm, wit or a one liner.

Brent's illness has been a long road of questions. In July on their family vacation, Brent thought he had fractured a rib because he had such sudden onset of pain (though he only spent the previous hours in a car driving). He worked, played and lived through all the pain until his frustration with it led to a MRI diagnosing him with discitis in September. How someone young and healthy would acquire discitis left every physician he encountered confused. It was determined the infection had affected his leg (requiring surgical bypass) and his mitral heart valve, called endocarditis (which would require open heart to repair). He went through the leg surgery and was sent home on some antibiotics to recover before proceeding with open heart. There still was no answer as to the type of infection causing all this damage. Brent was home for 10 days before feeling terrible with headaches/nausea and vomiting. Things just weren't getting better. Angie took him back to the hospital where it was determined that the infection had caused more damage to his organs and he would need emergent open heart to stop the spread. In that surgery it was determined that both valves needed repaired and the cause of all the damage was Aspergillus; a very rare fungal infection. Two days later, we learned that Brent had suffered from 3 strokes. Brent spent the next couple weeks on and off the ventilator recovering from the strokes and surgery. However, despite many medical interventions and the best antifungal medications available they were unable to stop the damage the Aspergillus was causing. On November 11, 2016 it was determined that Brent's brain was severly damaged from further strokes and was swelling beyond control. Angie had to decide to withdraw care and let him go. Angie didn't leave his side and laid holding him through to his last breath.

I'm "Uncle Matt" to Victoria and Bennett, Angie's brother, and Brent's brother-in-law. We all loved Brent! And we all know how much he loved his family. This is intended to help the Mullholand family through the most difficult time of thier life. Your donation will be used towards medical expenses and any surplus will be put into savings for Victoria and Bennett's college education. Your help means so much! My sister, niece and nephew will appreciate it even more! Words can not describe what they are going through. Thank you for supporting them during this most difficult time and may God bless you.
