Brenda Sue's Recovery Fund
Brenda sustained multiple broken bones and injuries. She has a broken shoulder, a broken collarbone, and several broken ribs. Her right arm is broken in three places and her left leg is broken below the knee and at the ankle. Her right leg is the most serious of her injuries. She sustained a compound fracture below the knee and another compound fracture above the ankle. She needs a muscle graft to close the wounds in her right leg. It's a grueling surgery and will take about 16 hours. If it's not successful her surgeons will be required to amputate her leg.
In addition to a lengthy hospital stay, Brenda is going to require a lot of physical therapy and rehab, and once we get her home she's going to need a lot of additional help. She's going to be unable to work for a while, and we as a family are going to need help with her medical and living expenses while she recovers.
If you can give, we are so grateful. If you can't, we understand and ask that you would just share this gofundme with your friends. And pray. Always pray, because we KNOW God answers.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you all.
I'll know more after the weekend, I'm flying to Maine tomorrow to finally see her. I'll be back Sunday and I'll update all of you after I've seen everything with my own eyes. Keep me in your prayers for safe travels!
A special thank you to San Antonio Raceway for what they did for my mom. We appreciate every single one of you more than you could ever know.
It's been a few days since the last update and I apologize for that. We wanted to wait until we had some concrete information to share with all of you.
They put a trach in earlier in the week so that they could remove the breathing tube, with the hope that she will begin breathing on her own a little more. That went well.
As most of you know, we were praying for a muscle graft surgery in order to save her leg. Unfortunately, there was just too much damage. Infection began to set in and she started spiking a fever, so they did amputate her right leg from the knee down today. As I type these words to all of you, it feels like I'm telling a story I read somewhere....right now it's just words. It hasn't set in yet and doesn't feel real.
My mom could use your support more than ever now. Please continue to pray for us and share the gofundme. And right now with everything going on, if anyone would like to talk to the family about anything, please reach out to me on Facebook messenger. It's the easiest way to reach me.
Thank you, we love you all.
I'm sorry I haven't posted sooner but we've been waiting until we had something substantial to report. So far things remain mostly the same.
Today, my mom was supposed to have the big surgery to do the muscle graft on her leg. The anesthesiologist called it off because her blood pressure has been a little low. She was brought out of sedation briefly this morning and was able to nod her head yes and no to various questions.
Her surgeons met today and discussed things, and will be proceeding with the muscle graft tomorrow or Thursday. This surgery is necessary to save her right leg. Until the surgery is performed, the wounds on this leg remain open all the way to the bone.
We appreciate all your continued well wishes, thoughts, and prayers. I will update again as soon as we get past this surgery. Today was frustrating, but tomorrow is a new day.
Just a quick update. Mom has now weathered two more surgeries and is doing as well as can be expected. She is still being kept heavily medicated but was able to respond to simple commands from the doctor (squeeze my hand, give a thumbs up, etc) and that's encouraging.
The doctors have discovered she has a small puncture to one of her lungs, which they have treated by inserting a chest tube, and a broken vertebra (T-5), which they will treat by fitting her with a brace to keep it immobilized. They are anticipating performing the muscle graft surgery on her right leg on Monday or Tuesday. I will update you all again following that surgery.
Shanna; I am part of state leadership in Christian Motorcyclist Assn. in the state of Maine. We found out about Brenda Sue through a message from a chapter in Texas. We have a chapter near EMMC where she is staying, who will be able to visit with her. With your permission, I will forward the message and link to all of our chapters in six New England states through a newsletter that I publish. The purpose is to increase prayer support and likely it will generate some donations thru fund me. You are both in our prayers. Stan Bumpus, New England Area Rep
