Hi everyone. My name is Shanna and I'm Brenda Sue's daughter. As many of you know, she was in a motorcycle wreck while racing this weekend at the Loring Land Speed Trials. She is currently in ICU at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor and we are anticipating approximately a three month stay at this point. She has been through two surgeries and will require multiple additional surgeries to repair the damage she sustained in the crash.
Brenda sustained multiple broken bones and injuries. She has a broken shoulder, a broken collarbone, and several broken ribs. Her right arm is broken in three places and her left leg is broken below the knee and at the ankle. Her right leg is the most serious of her injuries. She sustained a compound fracture below the knee and another compound fracture above the ankle. She needs a muscle graft to close the wounds in her right leg. It's a grueling surgery and will take about 16 hours. If it's not successful her surgeons will be required to amputate her leg.
In addition to a lengthy hospital stay, Brenda is going to require a lot of physical therapy and rehab, and once we get her home she's going to need a lot of additional help. She's going to be unable to work for a while, and we as a family are going to need help with her medical and living expenses while she recovers.
