Brain Tumor Surgery Relief

Donation protected
Our mom, Grace Yao had been dealing with a 3-month cough and trouble hearing in the left ear. Everything seemed to be going normal until April 4, 2019, when my neighbors informed me my mom had been taken to the emergency room due to extreme nausea, dizziness, and troubled breathing. First, the doctors performed a CT scan on the body and then proceeded to an MRI scan for the brain.

After an early diagnosis, the doctors had concluded that she developed a 4x4x4 cm tumor. However, this tumor was benign meaning that it did not pose as a serious threat and could not affect her life too much. So, at that point, surgery did not seem as if it was needed. However, doctors in the USA recommended that they should perform surgery in order to remove the tumor immediately.

As this all happened over the course of two days, my family and I were overwhelmed with everything that was going on, so my mom preferred to take Chinese medications to treat her tumor since she was afraid of surgery and the many possible side effects. After a couple of weeks of taking the Chinese medications and precautions, her tumor was slowly healing but no significant process was made.

On May 25, 2019,  she suffered a small stroke that increased the tumor size and made the situation extremely dangerous. My mom was on the verge of death that day so she told our family to never lose faith in God, love one another, and don’t be worried about her. Luckily, our friends from church who specialized in Chinese medication was able to rush to our house and help my mom. At the end of the day, the final decision was to have her fly to China to receive advanced Chinese treatments. On May 28, 2019, my mom safely arrived at Shenzhen Hospital.

Two days after her arrival, the contributions of my mom not drinking enough water and jetlag led to another mini-stroke causing the tumor to get bigger and a blood clot started to form. This emergency requires mandatory surgery so my dad left for China on May 3rd, 2019 to support my mom and sign the legal documents of liability. The brain tumor removal surgery is currently scheduled for June 11, 2019. At the moment, my grandparents on my Dad’s side are taking care of us.

We know he will face this challenge with as much drive and passion as Grace puts into gardening, teaching, skiing, and living a life for God. Our parents are part of a wonderful community with loving extended families and church families who have offered have offered help. While we realize how lucky our parents are to have a safe home and a blessed support system, with both of them being out of work, expenses will add up especially since the surgery is overseas and we don’t know if insurance will cover it.

We hope this fund will make finances less of a concern. We also know that through gifts given here, our Dad will feel the love, comfort, and positive energy that are so important during this time. For those who are unable to donate, please share this campaign with your friends on social media.

Thank you so much!

Much love and gratitude,
