Remy's Recovery Fund

Remy is our 3lb toy Yorkie and her sisters bella and kitty can't wait to have their crazy little sis running around again! About 2 weeks ago, our 13lb dog accidentally jumped up and landed on Remy. She started yelping really loudly and had a seizure for a few seconds, then acted completely normal and fell back asleep. Remy seemed fine the next morning so my wife and I went to work. When I got home I found Remy on her tummy and all of her limbs were spread out flat on the floor. I tried to stand her up but she couldnt stand on any of her legs.

We immediately brought her to her normal vet, as soon as she was seen the doctors highly suggested that we brought Remy to an emergency care provider that specialized in neurology as soon as possible, the closest one is an hour and a half away from where we live. As soon as we arrived Remy was taken to the back to receive tests, X-rays and an MRI. Hours later we found out that she had an atlantoaxial luxation and would have to stay at the hospital for a few nights.

In non-medical terms, Remy has two fractured bones that are supposed to keep her skull and spine connected. Since these bones are no longer doing their job, Remy has been paralyzed and placed into a body cast. The goal of the body cast is to hold her neck in place and give her body time to create scar tissue around her injury. We are trying to avoid surgery because of her size, high death rates and costs.

Remy is on her third cast at this point and we have to continue to get them changed every 7-10 days for a total of 8 weeks. Our family is currently transitioning out of the Marine Corps and trying to get everything settled back at home. All of our available funds have been exhausted, but we can't give up on our baby girl now. The additional cast changes cost roughly $500 each time, on top of the initial $3,000 bill that was acquired during Remy's hospitalization.

We are asking for help from anyone who understands how important an animal can be to their owners. If you can not donate funds, sharing Remy's story would be equally as helpful to us. Anything will help at this point and would mean the world to Remy and our family!
