I am Scott's Mom Donella and this is the story of my son.
A lot of families these days live paycheck to paycheck. Scott and Tara are no exception. He is 35 year old married man with a 15 year old son Scottie and a daughter Angela who is 13. He has been out of work since June.
He has had years of constant back pain. In August 2015, Scott and his docotor decided it was time for back surgery to help alleviate his pain. Right away he knew the constant pain in his sciatic nerve was gone. About 3 weeks later he was in severe pain and ended up with a hospital stay. Scott had an abcess in his colon and inflammation. He was sent home on antibiotics and told he would have to have a colonoscopy in 6-8 weeks. He continued to have pain and started to lose weight. Right now he has lost about 40 pounds. The colonoscopy told us the REAL story. Scott has a large cancerous tumor in his colon and the cancer has already begun to spread to other organs. It is a very aggresive cancer.
He is looking at a very brutal surgery where they remove all his organs on the operating table and look at each one to remove any cancer they can see or feel. The doctors then use heated chemo in his abdomen during surgery. He is looking at an extensive painful hospital stay.
He is very concerned about his family being able to remain in their rented home as he has always been the main provider. They are already starting to fall behind in their bills. Scott has been out of work since June, with only partial pay, now it has been reduced even more. I would like for him to go into surgery, not worried about his family being able to pay bills. Soon enough the hospital bills will roll in.
Scott is a family man, spending lots of time with his wife and children. He is very active in the community that he grew up in himself. He coaches girls softball and girls and boys basketball. The kids all LOVE him. He has always played competitive sports TO WIN. Cancer is no exception! He will fight to LIVE and will fight for the chance to finish raising his children. He knows he has a long uphill battle. PLEASE give him the peace of mind to know his bills are being paid and his wife will be able to take care of him and their kids. He is a good Christian man with a lot to live for.
