Bo's Hip Surgery

Donation protected

May 6 update: THANK YOU, EVERYONE!  I've stopped accepting donations because the final total for the surgery ended up being less than the high estimate, which I'd used for the original goal.  You all have fully funded Bo's surgery and post-op care.  THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!  I'll post a proper update with pictures shortly.

Bo is a former stray who'd been hit by a car, resulting in a dislocated hip that requires orthopedic surgery .  The $2100 we hope to raise would cover the costs of his surgery and post-op medicine.  He's a young, friendly Red Heeler mix (we think!) who loves his adoptive family and his red squeaky football.  Without surgery his right leg will gradually atrophy, become lame, and cause a lot of pain.

Here's how his hip looked when we adopted him in late April 2017.

Personalized "Bo-Doodles" for donations of $75+

My partner Glen Richardson, the creator of Sgt. Sasquatch , is an artist. He's offering some of his work for donations of $75 or more.

Glen said, "If anyone donates $75 or more, I'll do a 'Bo-Doodle' and post it on Facebook for the world to see. What's a 'Bo-Doodle' you ask? No it's not something you have to pick up out of the yard. Gross. It's a digital caricature drawing by me of you (or loved one) with Bo."

So there you go, a personalized caricature with Bo pup!

Here's Bo's whole story for those interested.

On March 31, 2017, Bo was hit by a car.  At the time he was a stray running loose.  The kind woman who found him took him to a local vet, paid for x-rays, a rabies vaccination, and had the lacerations on his left hind leg treated and stapled.

Bo's pelvis was fractured, and the top of his right hind leg popped out of the socket.  Due to the fracture, the vet could not put the leg back in place.

Three weeks later another good Samaritan named Justin found Bo limping near his apartment. Since Bo was friendly, he took care of the dog for a few days. Thanks to the information on the rabies vaccination tag, he learned about Bo's accident.  Justin started looking for someone to adopt Bo; he couldn't keep him at his apartment.

The kids and I were in the right place at the right time, and met Justin and Bo. Despite the pain he is in from his right hip and the staples still in his now-healed wound on his left leg, Bo was friendly and sweet.

We'd planned to foster Bo.  A few days later we'd "failed" -- decided to adopt him.  He's a sweetheart.

Any amount you could donate is much appreciated.

Even if the $2100 goal is not met, the total raised will offset the cost of the surgery Bo needs:  a femoral head ostectomy. The top part of his right femur will be removed.  As he heals, new tissue will grow to create a false hip joint.  Amazing!

Thank you for reading.  Now go hug a pet!
