Gulf Coast Environmental Coalition is a group of young adults, in partnership with Ocean Hour, servicing the greater Pensacola area through environmental action, advocacy, and education.
Through the conduction of weekly beach cleanups, GCEC and Ocean Hour have recognized that sand toys are a common source of waste found on the beach. In an initiative to reduce this form of waste from ending up along our shorelines, we have decided to construct two Borrow Bins to be placed on Pensacola Beach.
A Borrow Bin is a wooden container designed to hold and encourage the reuse of sand toys. These bins allow beachgoers the opportunity to borrow a toy for the duration of their beach trip and then return it to the bin when they leave. Additionally, it allows locals a place to deposit their used sand toys instead of just throwing them away. This helps reduce the amount of plastic waste heading to landfills or ending up on our shorelines.
Gulf Coast Environmental Coalition would like to construct these bins as soon as possible. We need your help...
In order to construct these bins, we need money for lumber, hardware, paint supplies, and professional signs informing people of the purpose of these bins. The approximate cost of each bin is $500.
The Borrow Bin Project needs $1,000 to be completed. All donations will be tax deductible as GCEC/Ocean Hour is a registered 501C3 organization.
