I wish we all had more time with Aaron Graves. He died peacefully Wednesday, June 5th, in Columbia SC at the age of 33. He was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2014, and in late 2018 we learned Aaron’s tumors had grown.

He leaves behind his wife Jessica, with whom he had a once in a lifetime bond. Their every interaction spoke to the boundlessness of love.

His gentle nature and ability to befriend anyone lives on in his sweet daughter Elvie, age 9.

And his son Julien, 8 months old, who has his daddy’s face: each day, he shows us new facets of the wonder of Aaron’s life.

We want to collect enough money to pay Aaron’s end of life expenses and remaining medical bills.

It is our hope too that we can cover Jessica, Elvie, and Julien’s living costs in the months ahead: diapers, groceries, a mortgage and utilities, health insurance, and all the other incidentals that Jessica must now cover alone.

Let’s make sure this family’s journey through grief is not impacted by financial strain.

We are setting our fundraising goal at 30k initially, and will update that number as we get a clearer understanding of the family’s financial burden.

Aaron and his family generated this magical, overflowing love and kindness, which they shared freely with everyone they met. It’s our turn to surround them with an abundance of love and care.

So do a grandpa dance. Eat a donut with a friend! Share this far and wide, and please give what you can if you are able.

Dear friends near and far,

Yesterday we came together to celebrate Aaron's kind and loving spirit. We want to extend the sincerest of thanks to everyone who was able to attend, love to those who couldn't make it, and our gratitude to those who are continuing to support Aaron's family with this fundraiser.

The church was completely full, and over 500 people attended the potluck which followed. It was evident by the stories people shared, the hugs, the laughter that rose above the sorrow, that Aaron lives on in the hearts of so many.

When Aaron was in college, he would take pictures of his friends with paper clouds suspended above their heads. Those clouds were hanging all around the parish hall where the potluck was held, along with masks and costumes he made in years past.

Cups from his heart mug collection adorned each table, and Aaron's music played in the background. He would have thought it was a great party, minus all the tears.

We still don't know the extent of Jessica's financial burden following Aaron's final hospital stay and time at Duke. We will continue to post updates as the bills come in, as well as updates about the fam and ways to join us in honoring Aaron's memory.

Jessica and her family feel truly astounded by the outpouring of love and generosity.

We can't say thank you enough.

Love,
Britt, Heather, Jessica, and the Bornick-Graves family

We (Britt, Heather and the Bornick-Graves fam) are so blown away by the support for this campaign! Thank you to everyone who has donated so far! Let’s keep the momentum going!! We have raised the goal for this campaign because of the immense costs that have accumulated during the last 5 years of Aaron’s treatments. Please continue to share this Go Fund Me and build support for a family that has done so much for and brought so much love to the greater Columbia community. <3
