My story; I have an autoimmune disorder called Systemic Lupus Erythematous (SLE). Several rounds of failed Chemotherapy, long term medication, including medical infusions and numerous treatments have slowed the progress, yet SLE continues to wreak havoc on my joints, bones, skin, heart and many other systems in my body. There is Hope, Regenerative Bone Marrow Treatments: which are Restorative Bone Marrow and Stem cells that can be found only within in the bone marrow. Bone marrow stem cell transplants can be used to infuse healthy stem cells into the body to stimulate new bone marrow growth where severe disease or injury have occurred, these new cells suppress the disease, and reduce the possibility of a relapse or further damage. However insurance will not cover this lifesaving/altering procedure. According to Stem Cells and Lupus Research: A Regenerative bone marrow treatment can be used to infuse healthy stem cells into the body to stimulate new bone marrow growth, suppress the disease, and reduce the possibility of further joint or tissue damage as well as reduce a relapse in the disorder. This process is usually repeated in 6 months to boost the immune system and keep the body from rejecting the healthy tissue. Stem cell research through bone marrow collection has shown to accelerate the pace of therapeutic benefits. These cells possess the potential to develop into many different types of healthy cells in the body. They actually serve as a repair system for the body. Mesenchymal stem cells are found in mature tissues that have already developed. The body uses these cells to replace damaged cells that die off throughout the normal course of life. As mesenchymal cells they are NOT collected from fetal tissue, these stem cells do not have the same ethical concerns or restrictions that embryonic stem cells do. Adult Stem Cells (Mesenchymal stem cells) or (MSC) are derived from the patients own bone marrow and are anti-inflammatory (which stops the process of Lupus and damage from chronic painful inflammation and low blood counts). These anti-inflammatory cells have unique properties that make them attractive as therapy for autoimmune diseases. Unlike with other stem cells, MSCs lack the properties that enable the immune system to detect them as being foreign. Therefore: donors and recipients are not usually needed for treatment to be successful, reducing the risk of rejection. Recipients do not need to ablate (remove) their cells with chemotherapy, MSC treatment has been found to be effective and only minimal side effects reported and minimal infections have been reported after the treatment so MSC is not only a safer option but carries less risk.
I 'm trying to target the most damaged areas (restorative treatments first) to see if they worst areas respond. Bone Marrow:Stem Cell transplantation/treatments have serious risks but are still safer than chemotherapy which can have lasting effects years after treatment (such a place the patient at a higher risk for developing cancer). With MSC a person's stem cells have been collected from the bloodstream, they are returned to the bloodstream along with a stem cell growth factor. I developed a serious heart sac infection (pericarditis) after my last chemotherapy treatments, and it was only successful for 3-6 months at putting my SLE in remission, so I'm cautious about going that route again. .
During the two weeks that the immune system requires to become strong again, the body is extremely vulnerable to life-threatening infection. I have already had multiple doses of Chemo and it was affective in putting me in remission but it was a trial study, even though it was effective it was a short lived remission! Small studies of stem cell transplantation for people with severe lupus have shown that it may help some people but it also has serious side effects so insurance is rejecting the treatments. This procedure is considered a high-risk, expensive, and experimental treatment for lupus.
Direct bone marrow treatments:procedures are what I will be doing next. The world’s most advanced stem cell and blood platelet procedures for treating Lupus, orthopedic injuries, arthritis and other are these precise injections of my own stem cells or blood platelets to help my body’s ability to heal damaged muscles, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, spinal disc & bone.If successful, the hope is that the direct bone marrow and stem cells help the bone marrow return to a healthy state and the hope is to restore health and put me in remission.Thank you for your donation of any amount and for helping me kick this autoimmune disorder (Systemic Lupus Erythematous) which will help renew my body, so that I can continue making a positive impact on the lives of those around me!
