Hello Friends,
We are Body & Soul Café.
A little history…In September 2015, Kellie Akehurst (Chef & Dietician) opened Body & Soul Café on Tamiami Trail in Naples, Fl. Working out of a small kitchen with only a take-out counter, Kellie’s mission was to offer a safe haven for those with food allergies &/or restricted diets (and for those looking for healthier eating options). She crafted a plant-based, gluten free, refined sugar free, soy & peanut free menu. Kellie worked with local organic farmers & like-minded local business owners to provide a true farm-to-table experience. In February 2017, due to personal reasons, Kellie decided to sell her lease, café equipment & storefront to another restaurant (different food concept). However, she passed the Body & Soul name & business on to her two dedicated chefs-Christy Boyer & Ashleigh Kendall.
So, where we are now? In a matter of a week, we have secured a licensed commercial kitchen space (commissary) to continue operations. We continue to offer plant-based gluten free (as well as sugar, soy & oil free) baked goods, specially prepared meal plans & whole food body cleanses.
Presently, we are offering free door to door delivery to the local Naples/Fort Myers area, and are exploring local pick-up locations at health food stores, gyms & the like. We have vastly improved the website (Body & Soul Cafe ) and now offer on-line ordering! We have also now secured a spot at the weekly Vanderbilt Farmer’s Market in Naples & will likely expand to Estero & Fort Myers farmer’s markets. Additionally, we will be offering cooking classes in our temporary kitchen space beginning next month.
Where do we want to be? Our true mission is to open a new storefront/café within a year, if not sooner. We have “Café” in our name after all!
Why we started this fund. Although we are very grateful for this opportunity, the store closing/transition basically took place over the course of 1-week (unfortunately without any prior notice). We were faced with unemployment or finding less-fulfilling employment elsewhere, but we love the food & both firmly believe in the mission to “provide food that nourishes the Body & Soul”. We decided that there was no other option but to carry on! Given the sudden transition, financially we could really use your support. We know that by banding together as a community, we can continue to provide the healthy safe haven that we and our customers are so passionate about.
