Bodies Matter: World AIDS Day Event
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
My name is Keith Johnson and I am a modern dance choreographer and Professor at California State University at Long Beach.
Every year World AIDS Day events take place globally, as an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate people who have died from the disease.
I am putting together an event titled: Bodies Matter, which will take place on World AIDS Day, Dec 1, 2016. I was awarded a Djerassi Artist Residency opportunity in 2015 in which I proposed to create a thirty minute solo. Bodies Matter is a response to my history of surviving the initial AIDS crisis in the 1980s and is an homage to all the friends that I lost.

This gofundme campaign will support our event, which will include eight incredible dancers, contributions from visual artists, and film makers. It will take place at California State University at Long Beach from 12—8pm. The dancers will perform the solo continuously during all eight hours of the event.

We would love to keep this event free and open to the public, in order to help raise awareness about HIV prevention and care. By donating you are not only becoming a patron of the arts, and supporting hard working artists, but you will also be showing support for those who have been affected in some way by the AIDS epidemic.
Your contributions will go towards the following:
Paying all eight of these acclaimed dancers for their time, rehearsal space rental, housing, and flights to Long Beach, California.
Costumes for each dancer.
Lighting, video, and other media help needed for the event, and for archiving it.
Marketing and publicity for the event.
Any donation amount will help and will be appreciated.
Thank you so much,
Keith Johnson
