Bob's Medical Transportation Fund
My Dad was in a very bad car accident last week driving back to Washington from Arizona. He rolled his truck multiple times on the freeway and is extremely lucky to be alive. He sustained multiple injuries with the most serious ones being a broken upper arm, broken cervical vertebrae and collapsed lung. For all of you that know my father, know that he is one hell of a character and has been through a lot in his life, this just being another chapter to his story. When he called me to tell me this happened the first thing he said was "Chrissy, this is just another story to tell in the adventure of my life." Granted, it didn't come out so clear (thank you pain meds) but I knew what he was saying and what he meant. My Dad is the most giving, kind and stubborn man I know...and he is also full of pride. I know he would roll his eyes and tell me not to ask for help but he can't do anything about it from his hospital bed right now, so here it goes. All of my Dad's care will be covered through his insurance, except for the cost of the medical transportation from the Vegas hospital to the rehab facility in San Diego. It was my decision to make as to where he should do his rehab and I know he loves San Diego and has many many friends there that would pay him a visit. However, the cost of taking him to SD (he has to travel by medical transport) will be high and I am in the middle of a move from LA to Denver with my 2 small kids, husband and dogs. I am asking for any kind of help anyone can give, whether that be a donation to his transportation cost or a promise to visit him in rehab (if you're in SD) or even just a call to let him know you are thinking of him. My Dad is so lucky to have so many people that care for him and in his corner I can't thank you all enough for taking the time to read this. If anyone would like to get a hold of me for any reason at all, please feel free to call my cell 858 386 2233. Thank you - Much love to everyone! Christine+ Read More
I am sorry it has been awhile since I posted an update. I just got back to Denver after visiting my father in the hospital in San Diego. I am happy to report that his skin graft surgery went very well and the doctor is super happy with how it is looking! My Dad is going to be sent back to the rehab center that he was originally when he first came to San Diego from Vegas. His infection is under control and his arm is finally free from infection and will be ready for rehab soon. His spirits are there but he is definitely frustrated with being in the hospital this amount of time and is looking forward to building his strength and mental capacity back up. Again, I cannot thank you all enough for everything you have done to support his recovery. Love you all and will post soon. -Christine
Hi Everyone - I wanted to give you all an update on my Dad's progress. He is still at Palomar Hospital working on getting clear of the infection in his arm and shoulder. The doctor's are updating me everyday on his progress. Once the infection is gone and the tissue is healthy enough he will begin the reconstruction phase of his recovery where the plastic surgeon will do skin grafts to reconstruct his upper arm and side. I am confident he is in the best hands and is being well taken care of. My Dad is in good spirits and is optimistic about the future and his recovery. Once the reconstruction is over and the healing of the wound starts, he will have to restart his physical and occupational therapy so that he can get back on his feet. When I was with him last he wanted to be sure that I say THANK YOU from the bottom of his heart (and mine) for all the donations, calls, concerns, thoughts and prayers...he is truly touched and sends his love to everyone. I also want to thank everyone for all that you have done to help me help my Dad. This has been overwhelming at times but the support I have received both financially and emotionally has made this all bearable, so thank you. I will continue to post updates as I get them, goodnight!
My Dad is still being treated for his wound on his arm and shoulder. He has gotten an infection and is battling MRSA. He will have to have reconstruction on his arm due to the depth and size of the wound. He is working with a great surgeon who is taking great care of him and making sure he gets the wound clean and healing before he starts the reconstruction. It will be a long road for my Dad but he is determined to pull through. Thank you all for your continued support and thoughts and prayers. Love Christine
My Dad was transferred to Palomar Hospital West today, (442) 281-5000, room 993, where he will have surgery on a wound he sustained in the accident on his left side, tomorrow morning. He unfortunately has an infection in the wound along with some dead skin they have to get cleaned up and irrigated and then treat with antibiotics. He should be at this new hospital for a few days and then will head back to the rehab unit for continued therapy. My Dad wanted so bad to write out a message to everyone yesterday but he’s still a few weeks out from getting back online and typing totally on his own. So he has set a goal to be able to do it on his own. He is in relatively good spirits, but is very tired and still in a decent amount of pain. Thank you all for checking in and your continued support through his recovery. Love, Christine
