Bob's Fight with Lung Cancer

Donation protected
Those of you out there who know anything about Bob Arndt, know that he has hardly been sick a day in his life. Beyond an occasional cold or sinus infection, nothing has slowed him down. Bob came down with what they thought was a cold in December. He had a mild cough that eventually progressed into something worse. In February, the doctors started treating him for pneumonia. When the medication didn't work, he had a chest x-ray and eventually a CT Scan. The scan showed a large mass in the lower lobe of his left lung. The scan was followed up with a biopsy that showed the tumor was malignant. The following week a PET scan was scheduled to see if the cancer had  spread. We received the results quickly, and they showed that the cancer was stage 4 and had spread to the lymph nodes as well as the bone in his back, ribs and pelvis.

Bob and Lori were living in Sun City, Arizona for the winter and had to quickly make important decisions for treatment. The family decided that treatment at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis was the best option. This set the stage for a quick pack and move of all of their belongings, and the house put up for sale. Two of Bob's sisters and his brother Ronny flew to Arizona to help with the move. Ronny drove the U-Haul back to Minnesota, Gail flew with Bob to Minneapolis, and Janet drove back with Lori and Shel. With the help of family and friends in Arizona and back at home, everyone made it back to Minnesota safely and Bob  had his first appointment at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis on Friday, March 31st. Bob was quickly admitted to the hospital to drain the fluid off his lung. They removed 2 liters of fluid in 7 minutes and continued the process over the next few days. He started radiation treatment Monday, April 3rd and will stay in the hospital until they feel its safe to start chemo treatments. After the chemo treatments begin, Bob and Lori will travel back and forth from Grand Rapids.

The funds raised will be used to off-set the costs of plane tickets for family members, and the moving expenses. The money will be used for hotel and transportation costs for Lori and Bob as they travel back and forth to Minneapolis for appointments. Modifications at their house in Grand Rapids will be needed to accommodate for Bob's care. The family thanks you dearly for any help you can provide.
