Bobby's 3rd knee surgery

Donación protegida
Bobby is a 6 year old English Springer Spaniel who we have owned since he was 13 months. He has become a big part of our family and we want to get him back on his four legs and pain free! He also shares an Instagram account  with his sister Cassy, go take a look for some more photos of them both.

Last November 2017 Bobby had lateral suture cruciate surgery.

Once the stitches were removed we were recommended to start hydrotherapy  to rebuild the muscle he had lost as a result of the surgery.

At 3 months post op Bobby was supposed to be signed off and be able to go back to normal activities. Unfortunately his surgery failed meaning he had to continue with on lead walks and crate rest. His sign off date was extended.

He had surgery again in April 2018 to remove the implant as it was causing him discomfort. Following the second surgery he lost all the muscle he had built up and we had to start his rehabilitation all over again.

In June he was still no better so our vet suggested a course of Cartrophen injections to see if it would help improve his mobility and pain. After the 4 weekly injections he had got worse, he had to stop hydrotherapy as it was too much for his leg and he was put on strict crate rest with no walks.

Every time we went out for a walk with our other dog, Cassy, we felt bad for Bobby being unable to join us so we got him a dog stroller (photo below). He loves being able to come out with us again and is very tired when we get back from all the mental stimulation.

We were concerned about Bobby and wanted to rule out any other problems so in August he had more X-rays taken (shown below) and his synoptic fluid tested. The X-rays showed bad osteoarthritis. The synoptic fluid contained high amounts of white blood cells showing inflammation in his leg.

A week ago our vet referred him to a specialist veterinary referral practice.

Today, 13th August we saw a specialist orthopaedic surgeon for a consultation. After examining Bobby he confirmed that his knee is not stable and that the initial surgery has failed.

He has recommended TPLO surgery which will take place on 28th  August 2018.

We have set up this "gofundme" at the suggestion of several friends who want to contribute to his surgery.

So far we have spent over £8,000 on his knee.
Bobby is insured but due to the previous surgeries and treatments his insurance limit has long since been passed.

The goal shown above is the approximate total cost of his third surgery including post op checks.

Thanks for reading Bobby's story about our gorgeous boy who has had an unlucky year.

We appreciate any donations no matter how small and would be grateful for any shares.
