If you know my father than you already know that the last 4 years he has been in the fight of his life, we were told 2 weeks ago that he no longer has any options other than to continue Chemotherapy which he is not healthy enough to do.  We've recently been accepted into CHIPSA hospital in Mexico which is an advanced integrative medicine hospital that is performing breakthrough treatments that are not yet FDA approved.  The upfront cost is substantial, the ongoing costs are yet to be seen but will also be extreme.  Our family is asking for any help on behalf of my father so that we can keep this FIGHT going!! God Bless

As most of you already know, my father passed away on Monday, Memorial Day, May 27th peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.

I truly believe the strength and courage he found over the last few months was because of all your continued prayers and positive energy. Because of all of you, we were able to leave “no stone unturned” with his options for treatment and explore every possible holistic and medical option available as well as keep him home under the best possible care through his last physical day. We now celebrate him being free again and honor him for his courageous battle over the last 4.5 years.

It is unfortunate yet understandable that the rarest forms of cancer receive the least amount of research and attention as is the case for all forms of Thymoma and Thymic Carcinoma. Although the majority of funds were utilized for his uncovered treatment and care, it is my father’s wish that all remaining proceeds from his fund-raising campaign as well as any future gifts in lieu of flowers, cards etc. be donated to:

IU Simon Cancer Center for Thymoma and Thymic Carcinoma Research in memory of Robert L. Cawley
with hope that we may save a future life.

I would also ask anyone who would like their donation returned to them to please reach out to me directly, without any hesitancy and I will happily do so to the extent that we are able to fill those requests.

The burial service will remain Private for family. A celebration of life is in the process of being organized but is tentatively scheduled for June 14th from 1 – 4. I will announce further details as soon as we have them confirmed.

This has been an incredibly difficult week for all those that loved him and I ask everyone to be patient with all forms of correspondence as our family organizes his proper send off. Thank you for your continued love and support for one of the greatest men we have ever known.

R.I.P my best friend.

Bob Jr.

I’ll apologize in advance for not being more responsible in keeping everyone up to date on my father’s condition. We have had such an outpour of support and have been in constant and direct communication with much of our family and friends. I’ve also reached out to everyone personally that donated to our GoFundMe directly through the GFM campaign but realized that many people did not receive my personal message, so if you did not hear from me please know that your thoughts, prayers and donation was and is greatly appreciated.

Our trip to Mexico was in my father’s words “the scariest 3 weeks of his life.” The treatment regimen was rigid and was essentially all day, every day. Some of his competing issues – gastritis, bronchiectasis, severe weight loss etc. disqualified him from being able to participate in some of the therapies, none the less everything we did there was a step in the right direction. CHIPSA Hospital brings out an incredible spirit in all those who are there for a common goal – to win a battle against a horrible disease. The patients, doctors and staff left an impression on all of us that we will cherish forever, and we feel blessed that we were able to make the trip successfully.

Unfortunately, we were not home more than a few days before finding out that some of his disease had spread over the course of time since his last CT Scan. We decided as a family to no longer focus on any prognosis or CT scans and just move forward with whatever it is that my father feels in his heart he wants to do and focus on 1 day at a time. This battle is as mental as it is physical if not more so but rest assured our family is in a good place, our hearts are full of love and we continue to focus on healing and better days ahead.

For all of those wanting to visit, I ask on behalf of my father that you reach out via text, send a video clip or an email. Lengthy conversations are one of his biggest challenges and although he will do his best to appease any visitor, he ends up paying the price for it. He sends his love to all and wants no one to worry – he is still a warrior and warriors always come out on top.

Love to All – Bob Jr.

I just wanted to update everyone quickly. Although the first few days at CHIPSA were a little rocky, my father has settled into the treatment program fairly well. His spirits are up and he is in a better place than he has been in a while. His patient administrator told me that everyone there adores him. I will be travelling to be with him over the next week. Several people have inquired about sending his mailing address. Please note he only receives mail on Tuesdays and Thursdays and we are hoping to bring him home on March 1st.

His mailing address is:

CHIPSA HOSPITAL C/O Robert Cawley
2310 Via Tercero Mail Box #108
San Ysidro, CA 92173-2814
United States

Please keep the prayers coming, I believe they are working :) BC Jr.

Last night my father boarded a flight to CHIPSA Hospital, he is officially on his way -- as promised, every single one of your names, comments, etc...is in his bag. The last two weeks have been mixed emotions of fear, anxiety, joy and gratitude but I strongly believe the only thing that got my father on that plane yesterday was YOU, everyone of YOU. Today we will close this fundraiser and be grateful for all of the incredible support and outreach that we have had over the last two weeks and say thank you one last time for all of your support. GOD BLESS

I would also like to take this opportunity to comfort all those in question about CHIPSA Hospital. This will be our first experience there and as a family we are cautiously optimistic. I, like many others that have reached out to me have read both the positive and negative reviews of this facility. I too had my reservations. It is a stark reminder that internet information and extraneous opinions should be taken at face value. Please know that throughout this entire journey our decisions have only ever made after thorough research and personal testimonials and feedback. Our decision to move forward with this hospital was a combination of talking first hand with patients and cancer survivors that believe CHIPSA saved their life as well as the lack of traditional treatment options available to us here in the U.S.

Now we come together and pray that my father is at the right place, receives the miracle that he so rightfully deserves and returns in three weeks with some new options to choose from. Love to all...

Bob Jr.
