Shakira's Bryn Mawr College Tuition

Donation protected
Hi! My name is Shakira Montaque and I am originally from Brooklyn, NY, but I am currently an nineteen year old junior at Bryn Mawr College.

I am trying to raise some money in order to help my parents and I afford to let me continue my studies at Bryn Mawr College for this school year and hopefully enough for my senior year. Currently we are having some financial difficulties and it has been such a burden for my parents and I to try and figure out where we will get the necessary funds to help me stay at Bryn Mawr and finish my juinor and senior year at Bryn Mawr.  A lot of changes have had to take place in our household in order to recieve some type of assistance from Bryn Mawr, but even then that is not enough. Even though the amount that my parents make has decreased since I started school, Byrn Mawr still increases my family contribution which is very stressful.

I know that you may be wondering, "Why would she even go to a school that would cost more than what her  parents could afford?" .To answer this question for my first year at college, Bryn Mawr really helped me out a lot financially. But, each year we get less financial aid and my parents and I do our best to help gather funds to pay one semester at a time. A lot of hard work was done in order for me to even be considered or even get into a school like Bryn Mawr. My parents sacrificed a lot in order to help me reach this step in life and go to college and I do not want my tuition costs to be a burden on them.

Going to college has always been a goal of mine. At Bryn Mawr I am currently a Growth an Structure of Cities major with a intended minors in Education and Africana Studies. I have dreams of becoming a future Architect or City Planner or even going to Nursing School in the near future.  I even have a  dream of starting a Nonprofit Organization that aims to help studnets  of color that attend primarily white institutions gain important opportunities through networking, mentorships and by creating events that aim to uplift students of color through talks that focus on surviving in these types of institutions, branding yourself and much more . I have begun work on trying to make this a reailty by trying to find sponors and do reserach on how to start a Nonprofit (if anyone has any knowledge of resources I should look into please let me know :)

It is very stressful and overwhelming constantly thinking about how I will  make it to the end of this school year. It takes a toll on me mentally and it is not the most fun thing to think about while trying to maintain good grades .But, I am a firm believer that God did not open this door for me to come to Bryn Mawr and will not see me through. I hope and pray that you will be led to give something. No matter how small your donation is, it makes such a huge difference and it will make an amazing impact on my life. Even if your don't give, please share this campagin on social media. Also, if you have any tips on how I can campagain, leave me a comment. I will take anything!

Overall, I just want to be able to make the dreams I listed above a reality. I want to be able to see my parents smile when I walk across the stage as a college graduate in 2019 and open doors for myself that can change my life.

But, I need your help!
