MAD ABOUT MA BLUES SOCIETY of COLUMBUS GEORGIA is an organization of Blues Enthusiasts, Musicians, and Educators dedicated to preserving the legacy of Gertrude "Ma Rainey" Pridgett, Women in the Blues Genre, Blues Education, and preserving Roots Music.
OUR VISION is to claim Columbus Georgia as the original Home of the Blues, and to be one of the best Blues Festivals worldwide offering an indigenous, fun, and educational experience.
We are raising funds to acquire 501(c)(3) status, and to cover other administrative expenses. This is needed to receive corporate funding for the 1st Annual Ma Rainey International Blues Festival to be held April 22, 23 2016 at the Columbus Civic Center and April 24, 2016 a Mock Funeral procession from Ma Rainey Blues Museum to Porterdale Cemetery where Ma is buried. Presented by The Columbus Jazz Society.
Ma Rainey has been buried in Columbus, GA for over 70 years, and was influential in starting what we now know as the blues. We want to celebrate the life of this fantastic woman with top blues and roots music acts. This will be an annual event for years to come introducing younger generations to blues and roots music.
