Blue's Sick Fund

On October 27th I took Blue to his hopeful last trial. On the 29th he began coughing, and was seen by a veterinarian on the 31st. He unfortuntely wasn't seen after that until I was asked to pick him up a week later due to no improvement and a much higher fever. I was told he had been kept on antibiotics for the week, but they must have not been the best type for him. On 11/6/17 after being contacted by his trial, saying he was running a 104.5 tempature and his coughing was worse  I made the desision to take him to EMC at Morven Park. None of the horses on my facility have shown signs any illness, as well as any of the horses on the facility he was reciving training from the few weeks before being transfered to his trial facility.  Shortly after being dropped off at EMC and put in isolation he was diagnosed with a moderate case of bacterial pneumonia which is believed to be secondary to some sort of viral infection. We were told he would be at the EMC until most likely WEDS/THURS with no complications. They decided to send out a nasal swab to make sure he didn't have any scary upper-respiratory diseases in horses... especially since this issue came out of the blue (pun intended.) Unfortuntely the lab lost the sample and another day of isolation was needed, and the results are  yet to be recieved. His respiratory rate still increase here and there, and his temperature is still in the 102-103 range. When we spoke to the doctor on Weds. she said that although his culture from his thoratic wash wasn't growing any bacteria she is suspecting that due to the cells that were seen in the culture sample of his lungs that is for sure was a bacterial infection. His recheck ultrasound wasn't improved from the first day, so they added in another antibitoic.  They wanted to do radiographs to assure he didn't have any abscesses, but unfortuntely due to cost I declined those. If there were abscess present it could have meant another week of antibiotics given by nebulizer and I for sure knew we couldn't afford that. Thursday morning they noted that he seemed more comfortable but they still didn't want to release him due to still having a fever and dealing with discharge from his nose with no visable improvement of his bacterial pneumonia. After speaking to the doctor last night about his case and how we just couldn't afford anymore care she even though doesn't recommend him coming home she was going to start working up a plan for him to return home. I personally want to wait until the nasal swab comes back to be sure this pneumonia didn't come from one of those diseases, but I feel comfortable bringing him home to our own personal set up of isolation (Thanks Dr. Horne) and giving him IV antibiotics until his is healed. He isn't at all out of the worst of this infection I believe, but I love what the doctors have done at EMC for us and now I think he can continue to get better at home. His bill was more expensive than we were hoping for due to the complications with his stay and not getting better as quickly as everyone was hoping. Please continue to pray for healing and quick recovery as well as peace for myself and everyone now involved with his care. If you choose to give we really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
