Our founder, Rupa Valdez, created the Blue Trunk Foundation in response to her personal travel experiences after acquiring a mobility-related disability. She discovered that while travel itself can be stressful, using a wheelchair further complicated even the best laid plans. After speaking to others with a wide range of disabilities and health conditions, Rupa began to realize the breadth of accessibility challenges in travel. From ramp access to large print menus to flexible ticketing options, the presence of accessibility features can make or break a trip. Motivated to create a travel site dedicated to making travel enjoyable for everyone, Rupa founded Blue Trunk in 2016.
Blue Trunk is dedicated to one goal: accessible, enjoyable travel for everyone. We want all people to be able to explore the world, regardless of age, disability, or health condition. Our website currently features blog posts, photographs, and articles to provide firsthand tips to travelers with accessibility requirements. We also help small businesses learn easy ways to improve their accessibility through our business resources page. We are delighted that so many people have benefited from these services, but we know Blue Trunk can do even more.
