February 1st 2018!!

We are gearing up to take this fundraiser home now! Lets raise this balance and show our communities that we have a mission that makes a difference. A mission that deserves to put down roots for and with the future generations. Our farm is a sanctuary for horses, humans caring for the earth with design and purpose, connection and compassion.

Our farm is also a walking park that is inviting and open to explore and learn about and celebrate your own horse culture more intimately!  A real Valentine's gift of the Heart to an ancient friend who has shared the same road for many thousands of years now.

Support Working Horses!

Establishing a farm sanctuary that can serve the most at risk horses as well as provide retirement for those who need it will serve equine welfare efforts everywhere to demonstrate we truly care about them. We care deeply about their needs, their suffering, their lives and their future.

Now is the time for this mission to have a home of it's own, where it can fully grow and develop and share with it's community in all the many ways it already does for over eight years.  We have found that farm, that perfect place we have been searching for in New Salem, Ma.

To experience what Blue Star does you can follow along on our social media pages or visit the website, it is there that you will "feel" as best you can through those mediums just what lives on and off the farm and all of that is thanks to the horses that call this mission home.

Horses are important to us all and while some already know that well. many others in our communities have not had opportunities to connect in meaningful ways with horses, at Blue Star we provide that opportunity.

At Blue Star we have developed a design that can restore a sense of well being for horses and humans. We have not been able to implement that design fully on leased land, nor is it possible to seek the funding available to help do it.

Please Join Us and help make this happen.  The full asking price for the farm is $370,000,  we have paid the $20,000 downpayment.
We have until Dec 8th to raise this campaigns amount. With that others will come in to help with their support, bigger foundations and donors, first they want to know that the community and our supporters really want it too.

In this holiday season of giving lets give the horses a gift that will last many lifetimes, a gift they can call their own.

A home of their own is the very foundation for building something that can last into the future. With appreciation and gratitude there is no limit to what we can do for them and our own kind. Thanks to all who are helping us draft a better future for our working horses in need on behalf of those living here and those who will need us most at another time. There is truly no place like home.

Happy New Year Friends! We are almost at $30,000! We made an amazing effort to purchase the farm in New Salem and while we didn't make the deadline we are still hopeful that in this coming week our request for more time will be honored. So many of us wish we could just make up the difference and get this done! It hasn't worked out that simple and maybe the challenge is exactly where we need to be in order to really know and understand the very big difference between saying you want things to change for horses in need and actually making it happen! It gets easier when we do it together and I know we are starting the year off just right for that.

Thank YOU ALL Friends on this page who have already given so much, know your donation is waiting for its chance to be counted in with all that is being gathered and your name will be written into the foundation of the forever farm the horses will one day get to have!

I BELIEVE and I am not alone!

What do a rare Black Clyde and a Suffolk Punch have in common besides the endangerment of their breeds? They have their good friend Punch, an American Paint Draft and another resident at Blue Star. All of the boys are at different places in their lives but they share the great love and devotion they have for each other in all the games they play no matter what the weather or time of day!!

Please consider helping making the gift to get them a home of their own! A place they will always have no matter where their lives will bring them and a home for the many others that will need to call it home too!

Meeting today for how to continue on securing the farm we believe is perfect for our herd! We will have answers for you later but we will keep this page open and change the date and leave it open-ended no doubt we will still need this until it is all raised! Stay tuned! We are half way there with all counted but we do need more time and that is what we are working on getting now! We have over half (of the $370,000) and that is amazing ..in the short time we have been able to do this!

Today is officially the anniversary of the day Paul and I would marry. We had been living together and running the farm for nearly 5yrs together and on that day (and the days beforehand) 3 yrs ago today we had decided to make a holiday of our own, that we could celebrate together. With this kind of work you are always "on duty" or on call, there is never a moment that the horses can be left alone and that has always fallen on me and in the past some others for a while, and Paul. Losing Paul was the most devastating experience yet and we had already lost others, like Caton (Arvol Looking Horse and Paula's son) our trainer and board member Sally and close friend and volunteer Deb, not to mention the horses that we all loved and lived with here.

Paul's leaving us is still hard to fathom and most likely will be forever more in this world, for me anyway, but I have excepted that as a reality I live with. I am not alone, folks lose their loved ones in all kinds of ways and what it does to you is what matters most, it can open your heart more or close it off to the world.

Paul's death reaffirmed my life and how important we all are for the time we are here. It also reminded me of the "great mystery" that is always playing out among us, divine order and our own order that we put on nature and others. It was terrifyingly humbling to realize that I did not "know" in any conscious way that Paul was carrying a burden too great to share or bear. In those days and weeks and months and now a couple of years later I am still here staying true to a very sacred commitment of my own to the horses, for my sake, for my community, for everything I care about. I have no problem living in this way but I do worry that so much of what we have all gained together in creating this could be lost with any decision I make on their behalf.

For many months now I only make decisions after consulting with the many professional and experienced horse people in my company and I am proud of them all. I am also deeply touched and effected by the many countless ones I never "meet" but who have been alongside us for the duration of it all....choosing to believe in something good...as opposed to giving up on what lives here.

For most this would not be a sustainable way of life but for me it is what I belong doing and whether I am doing here or somewhere else hardly matters spiritually but I do not want to give up or go backwards (reduce our operating to simply a few elderly or disabled or homeless horses) after having raised the young horses we have to help the other horses, it would truly be a set back, as anyone trying to find good work horses will tell you! They are as much a part of the mission as anything we do.

We (collectively ALL, you and me) have raised the working herd that lives here and we have all suffered when they do and we have all celebrated the amazing things they have contributed in their community that they live in, where they are loved and valued so much.

So stay with us folks, there is so much more to come, I believe that with all of my heart and maybe the full fruition of what we have created will take our life time to manifest fully but it will be all be worth it in the end because as Paul and I would say over and over to each other in the hardest times..."we don't have anything better to do be doing that we can imagine for ourselves or others".

Caring for these mighty friends has a reward that can be measured in simple happiness and joy and the fulfilling feeling that we ARE, most definitely are, making the difference for our working horse friends in need and that we care enough to share something with them to secure our shared road into the future together.

With honesty and love and real sacrifice on our parts we are creating something that can and most definitely will live on to be contributing to a better world for us all. All of our relations, past, present and on and on in the sacred web of life we all share.
