Welcome to the Blossomwood Destination Imagination fundraising page for Blossomwood Elementary!! Destination Imagination is a volunteer-led, educational non-profit organization that teaches "21st century" skills and STEM principles to kindergarten through university level students through collaborative problem solving challenges.
You might remember this competition being called "Odyssey of the Mind" when we were in school but, in the late 90s, OM split into 2 groups (basically a non-profit group and a for-profit group). Destination Imagination is the non-profit group.
Under a Team Manager's guidance, groups of 2-7 students work all year to come up with creative solutions to "challenges" in several areas: fine arts, service/learning, engineering, improv, scientific, and technical. After many months of work, they compete at a regional level, then state, and then global finals (if they qualify). At each level, there are registration fees and at the global level, it costs $5, 500.00 per team to compete. This is because it is a 4 day event that also requires housing and meals.
This is such an amazing experience for these kids. Not only are they learning how to solve these challenges academically, but more importantly, they learn how to collaborate and think "outside of the box". As a manager, I watch these kids put their sweat and tears (hopefully no blood...) into these projects and it is heartbreaking to see a team qualify but not be able to represent their school and state because the team cannot afford to compete.
That is where you come in! I created this page to help not just one team, but every student that participates in Blossomwood Elementary's DI team. Since we don't know which team will qualify, these funds will just remain in the account for any team that needs help this year or the next or the next, etc. Please spread the word and let's give these students an experience that they will carry with them for life.
