Blessing Bill Layton

January 25, 2019 Bill had a heart attack and was care lighted to Abilene from Brownwood.  Due to Brownwood Regional administering too much plavix he could not go into surgery until that Wednesday.  The doctors informed us that Bill needed a double bypass and that his Mitral valve was damaged.  Believing there was still hope for the damaged valve, the surgeon tried his best to repair it.  The surgery that was supposed to take five or six hours turned into an almost nine hour surgery when the valve repair did not hold, so a synthetic replacement was installed.  We were so thankful to the Lord that the medical staff was able to complete the surgery and save Bill’s life.  This was just the beginning of walking in faith for Bill’s healing and restoration.

What we did not know is how much we were going to have to rely on the Lord in the coming weeks.  Straight out of surgery Bill tried to respond to his wife’s voice, but he could not open his eyes fully.  The next two days were difficult, but bearable as Church family, school family, and close friends kept standing in agreement that Bill would be fully restored.  Tiny steps, it was tiny steps.  The doctors informed us that Bill had experienced a stroke, or rather a series of mini strokes.  By the third day Bill was able to open his eyes a little, and gently squeeze anyone’s hand that was holding his.  He would not talk, or keep his eyes open for any length of time, and would also not use his right arm or hand.  Messages were sent out to Church family, school family and friends letting them know specifically what to pray for.  Now Bill needed healing in his brain as the damage from the strokes was becoming more apparent, it was clear that he also could not swallow without choking as the fluids were going into his lungs.  Each tiny step forward there was new information regarding Bill’s condition that seemed like a setback, but we had no choice but to stand in faith, and keep interceding for Bill.  The doctors informed us that Bill’s kidneys were not working correctly because of the heart attack, at about the same time they said he now needed insulin, then lasix.  When the proper medicines where prescribed those issues came under control, and little steps forward were made.  Then Bill was not breathing well, and we suggested that attention be given to his sinuses and lungs as he has a history of respiratory issues turning into pneumonia over night.  So we took this to the Lord, and the medical staff ran their tests and found that Bill had fluid in one of his lungs, but it was not much.  This was a possible explanation for his white blood cell count being elevated.  What did we do?  We bowed our hearts and heads to the Lord and kept interceding for Bill.  Within a couple days the primary doctor began suggesting that we consider transferring Bill from Abilene to a hospital in Fort Worth.  His wife spend considerable time praying and seeking the Lord on what should be done, because she had a plan, but the Lord’s plans are always best.

Now Bill is in Fort Worth Kindred Long Term Acute Care Hospital receiving physical, occupational, speech, and cognitive therapy to help build strength in his body and mind.  He still gets a little confused from time to time when he is tired, but he is doing so much better now.  We can’t adequately express the gratitude to those of you who stood in prayer with us.

Being that his wife has been on family medical leave for a month now, and his eldest son took two weeks off from work to see his mom and dad through the ICU, finances have been a little tighter than normal, but we know the Lord will provide.  Bill’s daughter and third son also came to stay a couple days with their dad and mom in Abilene during those first two weeks.  Their daughter has been such a blessing as she helps her mom actually get some rest.  Friends of our family suggested we set up a GoFundMe, and to be honest, this is such a humbling thing to do, but our dear friends told us that there are some that would like to be a blessing to the Layton family.

Any gift that you make will be used to pay for gasoline back and forth to Fort Worth, meals, and hotel rooms.  Being that Bill spent two weeks in ICU, and was transferred to the Kindred Long Term Acute Care Facility for therapy and healing, any money that is not spent on gasoline, meals, and lodging will be used to pay medical expenses.  Please only give as the Holy Spirit leads you.  If all you are lead to do is pray, then we will be grateful to have you stand in agreement for complete healing for Bill, and for a solution for these medical bills.  The Lord has shown mercy to Bill as he is still with us, and His mercy endures forever.  May the Lord be praised for walking Bill through the valley of the shadow of death, and restoring him in His good time!

Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Thank you for the prayers and support.  God Bless!
