There's something so special about the black community. Even with all the hardships and setbacks we face every day, there is still hope, there is still progress, there is still joy!

On February 25, 2018, we will attempt to throw the 1st Annual Black Joy Parade down the streets of Oakland, California. While we must gather to resist, this is a time to gather in pure celebration - of all things Black, our presence, our progress, our experience, everything we have created in the past and will continue to create well into the future.

To give you some background on how this came to be, I recently moved back to Oakland after a 7-year absence and couldn't help but have this sinking feeling that the growth of certain industries has come at the expense of the Black community. It seems innovation is working against building a strong community, when we all know it can and should be working for it.

But, after reconnecting with folks locally, I remembered that there are hundreds of people and organizations committed to the Black community. Black Joy Parade is our attempt to bring them all together in one undeniable and unapologetic space that allows us to celebrate in mass, at scale, for everyone to see, hear and feel.

This event will fill the streets of Oakland with Black Joy from all walks of life. From the hood to the board room, families, singles, old and young, light, dark and everything in between. Our vision is a hyper positive, super colorful, hella energetic, family friendly turn up like only we can create. Imagine the music, art, dance, sculpture, step... the list goes on!

To pull this off we need to do it right. We have raised a chunk of money from corporate sponsors, but still need help paying for city permits, security and bathroom facilities, as well as to provide people who want to be in parade with sounds systems, trucks and other things they need to bring their Black Joy to life.

We believe that when something truly #matters you celebrate it! Please help us gather in celebration of Black Joy.
