Black Girl Down - Feature Film - Human Trafficking

Donation protected
So what's this miniseries about?

Black Girl Down  is about four dysfunctional strangers: a cynical, dispassionate Hispanic LAPD narcotics detective , a black Green Beret war vet with PTSD and hatred of civilians, a defensive and womanizing Asian-Jewish lesbian with a cocky disdain for men, and a white-privileged scrub with only a big mouth to cover his insecurities- all four of them in a jealous rivalry over a the same girl. A girl who is now missing. The quest to find her leads them down a dark path of vigilantism and slaughter of human traffickers across the US.

First Rodeo

“First Rodeo” , the Black Girl Down pilot, is about the four strangers in love with the missing girl and in a racially hateful competition with each other reluctantly uniting for a rivalrous road trip in order to track the only lead they have in finding her: an anonymous address in the desert...

Two dark worlds collide when this evil four meet an equally evil reality: a child trafficking base known as "The Trade School", where children must agree to either slavery...or death.

So who exactly are we?

We are the cast and crew of the Anarcho family. You have no idea what you got yourself into when you clicked on our campaign… We represent the rawest side of the film world with a tenacious mixture of talented actors, INSANELY gifted film experts and blue collar grinders with NO affiliation in film...all unexpectedly joining forces for the goal of completing an unforgettable film for what we hope to be the beginning of a continuing saga, a kickass and legendary mini-series, "Black Girl Down"(2019), the likes of which Hollywood has never experienced....

Current Status

Currently, we have filmed over 50% of the feature pilot, Chapter II: First Rodeo, on our own dime, but we want your assistance in funding the rest of this milestone, so we can finish off strong. We have also been blessed with most of what we needed to get us this far and we haven’t had to ask for help. But we’re at the point in this project where we wanna see some sparks fly, kick this production in overdrive and pull all of the film tricks imaginable for a phenomenal completion.

The Film's Mission

The purpose of the film is not simply to entertain people and make money. It is so much more than that. The film conveys a serious message on the very REAL world of human trafficking combined with the very provocative subject matter of racism in American society. It's a philosophical journey into humanity's ugliness and beauty, darkness and light, pure innocence and oppressing guilt.

The film highlights the issue of human trafficking that takes victim to countless many all around the world, and its spreading will help raise awareness of this plight to all the people around the world who are helpless to stop it. Your contribution to this film will not only "make a movie", but will help out a dire cause badly in need of being vocalized for the benefit of the planet. The mission of the film is to consequently raise awareness of the horrors of human trafficking. The vision of the film is a world devoid of human trafficking, having it been eliminated. Once completed, our goal is to God willing appear at movie premieres, film festivals, and work with non-profits to raise the maximum amount of attention to the issue of human trafficking.

This purpose of humanitarianism and goodwill has been the driving force behind tackling such an ambitious production without investors to lean on or big producers for guidance, and we wouldn’t have had it any other way. However for now, we want to get the public wrapped up in this production to share in its purpose.

By helping us fund this project, we will be able to complete the film, and you’ll be able to take part of and be intimately involved in what we consider to be the most unique and personally driven indie film project to date. When you take part in this project, you’re not just a “donor”, you become part of a family. You will be sitting in firsthand and getting a glimpse of what it takes to film a feature.

You see that face? That's our Co-Director! Does it look like she has mercy? Jesus Christ, no...Hollywood is about to get torn up by the new wave of badass film makers...and they should be scared...she doesn't mess around. Robert Murphy - First Rodeo Director of Photography

Imagine if a Navy Seal contracted rabies from a Bengal tiger, broke away from his platoon in the Vietnamese jungles and replaced his rifle with a camera...that's this guy...he's a straight-up savage in photography, unfit for mankind. He belongs in a cage...and should not be allowed contact with humanity because of the sheer power of what he can do with a camera and editing software. But he's loose...and he's among us, and he's the genius behind the epic cinematography you see before you. Jesus has officially reincarnated Picasso's soul into the body of a modern-day American...except he's now holding a video camera instead of paintbrush... Ok...that's MY official bio of this guy.... here's HIS modest bio of himself from his website,Robert Murphy Photography :

Robert Murphy is a cinematographer and editor based in Los Angeles.    He has shot on the Red MX, Epic, Canon 7D, 1D, Sony EX-3, Canon 5D, and 16mm film.  This past year he has shot and edited two Red features and also shot two features using the Canon 5D.

In 2009, Robert worked as the cinematographer and supporting actor in the feature film In Search of a Midnight Kiss.  It premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York and went on to play festivals around the world, including Edinburgh, Sarajevo, Poland, and Woodstock.  It received theatrical distribution through IFC and Vertigo pictures, and played in theaters in United States, Great Britain, Spain, Australia, and Greece, grossing over $1 million worldwide.  In Search of a Midnight Kiss went on to win the John Cassavetes Independent Spirit Award for best feature film under $500,000.  It was also named one of the top ten independent films of the year by the National Board of Review.

Robert was singled out for his cinematography, with positive reviews from both Roger Ebert and Anthony Lane of the New Yorker:

"Photographed in glorious black and white by Robert Murphy." --Roger Ebert

"And yet Holdridge, in consort with his director of photography, Robert Murphy, has delivered a beautiful piece of work. It is shot in black-and-white—proper black, as rich and as sleek as cat's fur, not the washed-out tin grays that you might expect. Murphy is treading in the footsteps of the James Wong Howe who shot 'Sweet Smell of Success' and the Gordon Willis who shot 'Manhattan.'" --Anthony Lane, The New Yorker

In 2011 Robert worked as the cinematographer and co-editor on the feature film Carlos Spills the Beans.   It premiered at the Los Angeles Downtown Film Festival in 2012 and is also slated to play the Raindance Film Festival in London in 2013.  Directed by Brian McGuire, Carlos Spills the Beans is a dark comedy about a large family that runs a hip restaurant in Hollywood, and it stars Joey Capone, Bret Roberts, Harry Dean Stanton, Brian McGuire, Elena Krauz, Jimmy Duval, C.C. Sheffield, and Mark Boone, Junior.  Robert won the award for best cinematography at the Los Angeles Downtown Film Festival in 2012.

Murphy's work as both cinematographer and co-editor was again featured at the Seattle International Film Festival in 2013:  9 Full Moons, a feature premiering in the New American Filmmakers' competition, is a romantic drama set in the Los Angeles music scene which stars Amy Seimetz, Bret Roberts, Donal Logue, Harry Dean Stanton, Brian McGuire, Pamela Adlon, and Dale Dickey.  Written and directed by Tomer Almagor, 9 Full Moons is also slated to play later this year at the Raindance Film Festival in London, the Oaxaca Film Festival in Mexico, and in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Murphy also recently worked as cinematographer on the feature film Meet Me in Montenegro, which was filmed on location in Berlin and Montenegro.  Set to premiere later this year, Meet Me in Montenegro is a romantic comedy directed by Alex Holdridge and starring Rupert Friend, Jennifer Ulriuch, Alex Holdridge, Linnea Saasen, and Deborah Ann Woll.

Also in 2013 Robert, worked as cinematographer and editor on the short film "Follow," which premiered at the SXSW Film Festival in 2013.  A dark horror film, "Follow" was directed by Owen Egerton and stars Jessie Tilton and Jonny Mars.

In 2013, Robert worked as cinematographer and editor on a music video for Bob Schneider called "Wish the Wind."  Also directed by Owen Egerton, "Wish the Wind" stars Jessie Tilton and Bob Schneider himself.

Robert also shot and edited a music video for Fernanda Ulibarri called "Cancíon Animal."   In the video Fernanda plays two characters:  a lonely woman hoping for a date and also legendary Latin songwriter and singer Gustavo Cerati.

Robert has been shooting feature films and music videos for 15 years.  A graduate of the University of Texas film program, Robert now lives in Los Angeles.  His cinematic inspirations are Stanley Kubrick, Roger Deakins, Vittorio Storaro, Martin Scorsese, Robert Richardson, Paul Thomas Anderson, and Quentin Tarantino.

Robert would also like to give a big shout out to his parents, Bob and Carolyn Murphy, and his brother Billy, for their continued support and encouragement through the years.

Henry Wilson - Assistant Producer...and a billion other things for First Rodeo

Henry was in the Navy for 12 ½ years - started off as a quartermaster on the USS Austin LPD-4 before changin his career field to Intelligence Specialist.  Henry then went to school at Lowery Air Force base in Denver. His second duty station was at Fleet Intelligence Center in Europe and the Atlantic, served on Admiral Staff in Rosevelvet Road, Puerto Rico as well as work in South America, and West Africa.  He finished his tour there and went to the US Space Command in Colorado Springs and Cheyenne Mountain as an Imagery Analyst.  He made E-6 in 6 years which, in the Navy, is fast as hell. When his tour was almost up he was selected for the National Emergency Airborne Command Post. After medical discharge from military service he worked as the lead imagery analyst for various programs such as:

The Advanced Tactical Reconnaissance System F-18 (ATARS),

The Shared Hornet Advance Reconnaissance Pod F-18 (SHARP),

Global Hawk,

Empire Challenge (one of the founding members with 15 Years),

And the Enterprise Challenge

Now he is a Police and Community Volunteer (PACT) of 12 years service with almost 12,000 hours, and a year with Las Vegas Metro as a Volunteer with 1,000 hours with the Special Traffic Response Team (STRT).

And somehow...he got involved in our choas as Assistant Producer, Production Security Supervisor, Logistics Supervisor, Creative Contributor, Law Enforcement Advisor, Weapons Safety Officer and...a billion other credits that’s gonna take me awhile to remember...but it’s safe to say we would be SCREWED if we didn’t have him on our team...a bonafide Anarcho badass!

Michael Macoubrie - Sheriff Lyle

Michael Macoubrie was born in Claremore, Oklahoma, raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma and attended undergrad at Oklahoma State University, where he played football for one year and is presently working on a Masters at The University Of Oklahoma. He served 8 years in the United States Navy as a flight engineer and electronics technician. He presently owns a Biomedical Service Company doing field service and clinical training on Perfusion, Open/Heart Surgical Equipment, and has been in business for 22 years. Although not formally trained in the art of theater, acting has been a dream/passion of his for many years. The director became acquainted with Michael and was impressed with his talent of off-script Cohen bros-style acting and fit the bill for Sheriff Lyle, the absent-minded local sheriff who happens to be the first law enforcement authority to walk into the bloodbath of First Rodeo. Michael’s love for edgy filmmaking has driving his passion to playing such a dark-humored role.

Donald Holland - Sound Editor and Music Supervisor

Donald Lee Holland Jr is an audio engineer with a certification in Music Production from Berklee College of Music. Over the past decade, he has mixed and re-mixed over 100 tracks by both indie and professional artists, including Plain White T’s, Adrian Daniel, and Little Chicago’s Finest. Besides mixing, Donald also composes hip-hop instrumentals, one of which was chosen for Coast 2 Coast’s Beat Bangers Mixtape, the most downloaded mixtape series in the world.

He also just so happens to be an audio and musical genius who has developed a badass score for the film in coordination with the director's vision. We take so much pride in our original music for the film and can't wait for the audience to experience it.

Stephanie Roberts - Sound Mixer

Stephanie was born and raised in the suburbs of Seattle, Washington. She attended college at the art institute of Seattle where she studied audio production. After taking a class on sound for film, she realized she wanted to work in movies and television. She then decided to move to Los Angeles the fall of 2016 to pursue her career. She’s been working on features, shorts and documentaries ever since. Stephanie is also a musician of over 15 years and loves to write as well.

Wade Patterson - Sound Mixer

Wade was born in Jackson, MS, and has been working in the film industry for the last six years. He has recorded sounds on projects for brands like Hallmark and worked with amazing talent like Gabrielle Union and Sherri Shepherd, and when he’s not on set, you can find him in a coffee shop writing or on the beach with his guitar. He loves filmmaking and cinema in general and some his favorite movies, ironically, are the old Charlie Chaplin films which featured no sound.

About the set
Welcome to Robbers Roost Ranch
Robbers Roost Ranch

Let's start in 1874 a time that everyone was hearing stories of rich mines and wealthy men in the desert. The Cerro Gordo mines were going forward at full capacity. They had 4,800 people and 1,600 mules living in this mining town. Mine production was 2,200 tons of ore that year. Heavy wagon loads of 83-pound bars containing silver, lead with minor amounts of gold and copper were hauled daily down the Yellow Grade Road by Remi Nadeau's sturdy mule-drawn freight wagons to Swansea. The ore was shipped by steamer Bessie Brady and in 1877 on the Mollie Stevens across Owens Lake to Cartago. It was then transported again by wagon to the train at Mojave. The Cerro Gordo Mine needed more water for production and installed an 11-mile-long pipeline, which brought 90,000 gallons of water per day to the site. Daily production was now 18 tons of ore which was smelted into 400 bars of silver bullion. Walker Pass on highway 178 was one of the routes that they shipped the silver on. Sometimes called the coyote holes was a formation of rocks that was a perfect hideout for a notorious bandit that a lot of people wanted to catch both him and his band of robbers. Tiburcio Vasquez, was the bandit whose hideout was in Robber's Roost. He robbed stages and freight wagons along the eastern Sierra, especially near Coyote Wells (Freeman Junction) until he was captured later that year. To discourage such robberies, the Cerro Gordo and Panamint mines began making bullion ores into 300-pound balls that could not be carried on a horse! These rocks were west of Freeman Junction and earned the name of Robber's Roost. After being caught several different times Tiburcio's trial finally happened. It was March 19, 1875 that Vasquez was tried, found guilty and hung at the age of 39.  -   www.robbersroostranchca.com

So there's your badass official history of Robbers Roost. And over a century later it's now home to Robbers Roost Ranch- a welcoming Wild West tourist attraction with a real historical ghost town and a savage restaurant that will be opening soon. When us directors first heard about this place over a year ago and met with the owner, Jon Knutson, we were immediately captivated by this Western dream. With the support of Robbers Roost Ranch owner, Jon and his ranch manager, Deanne Kuppens, we started filming this pilot on location and were beyond thankful for the rare privilege of filming at such an exotic landmark. Jon and his family of cowboys surrounded us with not only logistical assets but introduced us to the locals of Inyokern and Ridgecrest who have been helping us all the way through filming out of pure hospitality. The beauty of this location is undeniable when you see some of the footage. So here's to Jon and Deanne and the Legend of Robbers Roost Ranch!
