Hello! My name is Esmerly. I am eighteen years old and an international student from the Dominican Republic. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity I have been given to accomplish my goals by being accepted into the Industrial Design program of Savannah College of Art and Design.
I have spent the past four years in high school devoting myself to my studies, giving my best and always trying to benefit from the knowledge of my professors. I graduated with honors and finished as Valedictorian of my class. Through high school, I enrolled in as many extracurricular activities as possible that would enrich my knowledge and help me achieve my dream. Studied French and Italian, took drawing classes at one of the most prominent design schools in my country, became part of my school’s volleyball team and enrolled in all the Advanced Placement classes my school had to offer.
Sadly, after a cumulative of $15,000 dollars granted by SCAD and planning to work at the university 20 hours a week, the cost of attendance is still very high for my parents to pay. Their income is not enough to cover the expenses of attending college at the United States. Being an international student, it has narrowed my opportunities to get financial aid from the school or any other entity. All of these obstacles get me farther and farther away from my dream.
It is extremely hard for me to be asking for this amount of help but the thought of not achieving my dreams is unbearable. I know this is a shot in the dark but I’d rather face failure than risk my future by not trying and giving up. Your investment in my education would be a huge blessing and I would be forever grateful to you. I can guarantee you your help will not go to waste.
