Jessie's Battle Fund

Donation protected
Jessie is an amazing 11-year-old girl with an old soul! She loves dogs, friends, swimming and reading. She is strong, bright, funny, caring, and beautiful inside and out. Unfortunately, she is having to show her strength as she battles Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) for the second time in her short 11 years.

Jessie was first diagnosed in February of 2014 at the age of 8 years old. At that time, she was treated with chemo therapy over the course of almost 2 and a half years. She had some complications including paralysis that caused some scar tissue to form on the frontal lobe of her brain. She had finally finished her treatments in June of 2016. She had her port used to administer her medications removed last August.

Sadly, in early November of 2016 she relapsed again with her Leukemia coming back stronger and more aggressively than the first time. Because of the intensity of the cancer's return, the doctors at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital had to treat her just as aggressively with chemo therapy. Jessie had many complications after this treatment started. She had a very painful infection in her blood that caused her so much pain that it was heart breaking for her single mother, Crystal to watch. While Crystal was at work one night in early December, Jessie had a 10-minute-long Grand Mal Seizure that caused her doctors to put her into a medically induced coma and she was transferred to the ICU where she stayed for many weeks. While Jessie was in this coma, she had her 11th birthday. There was concern of brain damage that may have been caused by the seizure so she was hooked up to a brain monitor.

Slowly she was brought out of the coma and eventually started making some progress after many medications, physical therapy, biopsies and surgeries. She was able to restart her chemo treatments in January. On February 3rd she underwent another surgery to remove and test some nodules that were on her lung. The procedure went well and we are just waiting for the results to come back. The outcome of these test results will determine the course of treatment she will undergo from here. Because of this type of Leukemia, eventually Jessie will need a Bone Marrow transplant. Currently Jessie's older brother, Damien, who is 15, is going to be tested to see if he is a match.

Crystal is a very hard working and dedicated mother of 2. Jessie's brother, Damien is a sophomore at Molalla High School who adores his little sister. Crystal works 2 jobs and spends all of her free time at the hospital with Jessie. At the time that Jessie was in the ICU, Crystal rarely left her side. Whatever treatment is to come for Jessie will be intense and at that time Crystal will be there with Jessie full time. The doctors have said though Jessie may be able to come home periodically she will likely be at the hospital the majority of the time for about a year. She is missing her friends and her friends are missing her terribly!

We as parents, friends and family never dream of having someone close to us needing to fight for their life, especially a beautiful and bright young lady like Jessie. Any help given to Jessie's Fund will be to help with getting her healthy and help her family in this time of great financial need. Every dollar helps and every cent is appreciated! If you can't afford to help financially, please consider donating blood or getting tested to be a bone marrow donor. Although you may not be a match for Jessie, you could be a match for someone else battling this horrible disease.

Thank you for taking the time to read about Jessie and her fight against Cancer.
