Everyone has a story. This one is mine...
Many of you know I have been very sick for the past four years and Denise and I have cherished your many prayers and well wishes during that time.
Nearly simultaneously, I was diagnosed with advanced liver failure and bladder cancer. My local Gastroenterologist told me that a liver transplant was my only hope for survival and referred me to the world renowned Ochsner Hospital Multi Organ Transplant Unit in New Orleans. In order to keep maintain seamless care between departments, my local Urologist referred me to the Urological Oncology department at Ochsner to manage my bladder cancer. For the next three years we traveled back and forth to New Orleans for appointments, labs, x-rays and bladder treatments. My liver disease was worsening and the decision was made to proceed with the transplant immediately. On April 9, 2017 a family made the incredibly difficult decision to donate life to someone they had never met and I was given a second chance to live with a brand new liver! Thankfully, my transplant went without any problems and I was discharged from the hospital in six days! Your prayers and emotional support kept us going during that scary, uncertain experience.
Denise and I then moved into an apartment owned by Ochsner where we were required to stay for the next two months. Built in the 60’s,  it had undergone several upgrades but it still felt like we were back in college. We knew we had to bring our own linens but we ended up having to set up house from the ground up! We had to buy everything - brooms, mops, trash cans, dishes, eating utensils, pots, pans, food, cleaning supplies, etc., etc. Our time there was filled with labs, appointments, bladder treatments, and a hospitalization for early stage organ rejection (an apparently expected event for all transplant patients.)
After our two months at the apartment, we finally came home but the trips back and forth for labs, ultrasounds and bladder treatments are ongoing.

We were raised to be independent but we have rightfully cherished those times when we needed the support of those who love us, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. We are weary of the struggle and quite fatigued by our need to be strong for our family. While we continue our prayers for healing of the bladder cancer, it’s now time to ask for financial help to defray the enormous medical and non-medical expenses we have incurred. To that end, we have prayerfully decided to initiate a Go Fund Me account in my and Denise’s names.  Any donation will be a blessing to us.
