For those of you that know my Dad, Bill Barricks, they know that he is someone that would do anything for anyone at a drop of a hat.  Dad has always been there for others in times of need, without thinking twice. My Dad now needs our help.

On 5/9/18, Dad was admitted into the local hospital with symptoms of a stroke. After some testing, it was learned he did have a “mini” stroke, but it just was not known when.  The doctors also discovered he has Hydrocephalus (fluid in his brain), that more than likely will need to be treated through brain surgery. While he was in the hospital, Dad suffered another stroke, which has now impacted his ability to be independent. This stroke has left him with partial paralysis to the right side of his body. He has a difficult time using his right hand/arm and is not able to walk. Speech has also been affected, with his words slurring, difficulty expressing his thoughts into words, and has impacted his memory.

Dad was in the hospital for 9 days before being transferred to an intensive inpatient rehabilitation center, where he is receiving physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Once Dad is stable regarding his stroke, he then needs to meet with a neurosurgeon to address the Hydrocephalus and possible brain surgery.  Dad is determined to get stronger and return home safely to my Mom and their three animals.

Before Dad was hospitalized he was working, driving, and was independent. Since the stroke, Dad is not able to work and the loss of income has become a financial burden for my Mom and Dad.  Dad does not have short term disability or any paid leave time. Mom is working a full-time job, trying to manage the house, day to day duties, and do what is best for Dad.  With the medical bills coming in from the hospital and the rehabilitation facility’s care, as well as their day to day living cost, this Go Fund Me account was created with the hope of some financial assistance with their expenses. Any amount that you may be able to donate would be greatly appreciated to help the financial stress on my parents, to assist with the recovery for my Dad to return home and slowly regain some sense of independence again.

Thank you for your time, consideration, thoughts, and prayers.

Rob and I were able to visit Dad for a few days in the hospital after his surgery. Dad was then moved to another rehabilitation center closer to home, where he is receiving therapy. The goal is for him to get stronger and be able to safely return home. We are all appreciative of everyone's continued thoughts and prayers. Love to all!

Dad's surgery went well. He will be in the hospital for a couple days so the doctors can monitor him to determine how he's doing and what the next step is. Thank you to everyone for the positive thoughts, prayers and encouraging messages. This has been a crazy journey for us all, but we are grateful for everyone's support and love. I included a picture of Dad giving a thumbs up and in good spirits before the surgery today. Much love to all.

Dad has been approved to have the brain surgery, which will take place this Friday. We would greatly appreciate everyone's continued positive thoughts and prayers for Dad. We are praying for a safe surgery and successful recovery. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read this, share it and sending all the comforting and encouraging messages. Love to all.

Another update on Dad. It was FOUR weeks ago when Dad had his stroke. He is still in the rehabilitation facility and doing the different therapies to build his strength and regain some normal activity. He arrived at the rehab THREE weeks ago today. Everyone can only imagine how impatient Dad can be and he is anxious to go home. We keep telling him his job right now is to do what the therapist, nurses and doctors tell him to do.

Mom and Dave joined Dad this week to meet the neurosurgeon to discuss what the next step is with the hydrocephalus. He is having a procedure done next week to determine if he will have the brain surgery or not. We are hopeful we will see some improvement with his abilities after the procedure.

Please keep Dad and our family in your thoughts and prayers. We love hearing messages of encouragement and positive thoughts for Dad. Please continue to share this with others and any gift/donation will be greatly appreciated. Love to all.
