Hello, my name is David Zamkov and I am going to bicycle across America from Maryland to California, and raise money for Leukemia along the way. When I was 8 years old, my father passed away from Leukemia. He battled the cancer for years, and went into remission many times, but eventually, as is the case for many people, the cancer ended up winning. Thus, I saw an opportunity here to raise money for something important to me and important to many people. Leukemia is THE MOST popular cancer among children, and donating to this campaign can help me get across America, but ultimately help those children diagnosed with this horrible cancer.
My goal is to raise $10,000. I will donate 80% of my earnings to Leukemia Research, and use the remaining 20% to purchase materials for the trip. This will not cover all of my expenses, so I am not doing this for my personal gain... just the materials for a trip like this are very expensive (tent, sleeping bag, bicycle, food, etc...), and I would like to alleviate myself from the enormous expenditures of a trip like this. I will not be staying in hotels, and very rarely will I eat in a restaurant. I will be camping along the way (unless somebody hosts me!), and preparing my own food.
NOTE: If the goal is reached I will personally take less than $2,000 after the GoFundMe fees kick in (there will be $9,200 leftover, so I will take $1,840). If the goal is exceeded, I will not take more than 20% and will never actually profit from this campaign. The extra money will pay off the rest of the expenses and the rest will absolutely go to research.
