Bike to Support Campaign

Donation protected
As most of you know, I love getting involved in things that keep me involved with my school district or active in my community.  I’m usually coaching a team, supporting another co-curricular program, or advocating for students in my classroom.  Recently, I personally started up a new hobby:  cycling.  It’s something that has definitely sparked my interest (except when I get stuck in my clip-ons and fall while at a total stand still – luckily, I wear a helmet!).

After completing a ride last fall, I was acquainted with a local organization:  The Central Valley Cycling Charitable Association (CVCCA).  Also known as “Parker’s Team,” CVCAA is a cycling team that 1) teaches novice riders how to improve on their cycling and 2) helps fundraise for some amazing charities throughout the Central Valley.  CVCCA/Parker’s Team is a non-profit 503C charity.  Their mission statement:  to enrich our community by supporting local charities through cycling-related activities, while promoting safety through education and training.

With the help of Parker’s Team, I am beginning the process of training to complete a 100-mile bike ride:  “America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride” in Lake Tahoe on June 4, 2017.  Yes, I am riding what they call a “century” ride – 100 miles – on my bike – by myself – in one day!  In exchange for my training, we agreed to raise $2,000 for CVCCA/Parker’s Team (I dragged Jen into all of this fun).  This year, 100% of the proceeds raised will go directly to Survivors of Suicide and Adaptive Sports.

Survivors of Suicide – Hinds Hospice

Hinds Hospice has adopted the Fresno Survivors of Suicide Loss Program to continue to provide comprehensive grief support to the community. Fresno SOS is a specialized program for grief and healing and will continue to maintain support groups and services for those experiencing the loss of a loved one to suicide, as well as trainings, education and information, and suicide prevention and education.

Adaptive Sports – Shaver Lake

Disabled Sports USA’s mission is to provide national leadership and opportunities for individuals with disabilities to develop independence, confidence, and fitness through participation in community sports, recreation and educational programs.

The challenge of training/riding a bike 100 miles in one day is a huge undertaking.  However, these challenges cannot compare to the daily challenges of those individuals we are supporting in this ride.

Do I have your interest just a little?  I hope so.  Because if Jen and I can find about 200 people to each donate $10 (any amount will help), we will meet our goal.  I have done a lot of fundraising the past twenty years – always supporting high school programs.  This time, however, it is a personal charge.  I am very excited about fundraising for SOS and Adaptive PE.  I hope you will consider helping us reach the goal of crossing the 100-mile finish line AND raising $2000 for these amazing organizations.

If you are able to contribute, please use the following TAX ID #91-2164770 for your tax deduction.  You can either write a check to CVCCA (and mail to me), or donate to the GoFundMe account that I have also established.

Again, 100% of your donation goes directly to these two charities already mentioned.  Thank you SO MUCH for your consideration.  We look forward to celebrating with you (in person or in spirit) at the finish line!

With love and gratitude,

Drey “Clip-on” Castro and Jen “Social Butterfly” Walzberg
