Late Monday night our dear friend Nick Wachtel was in a bike accident somewhere in Manhattan. He was brought to the ICU at Harlem Hospital and has been recovering here since. Details are unclear since Nick has been unable to speak. He is in critical yet stable condition, sedated with a broken jaw and is relying on a ventilator to breathe.

We know very little about the accident and are in contact with the NYPD to better understand what happened. We will update this page with more information as it we receive it.

As his situation develops we have taken the initiative to create a GoFundMe to help cover any expenses. This includes his medical bills, rent and all other costs that will be incurred. All funds will go directly towards his hospital bills and to his immediate family.

If you can support in anyway please donate here. And feel free to share this page however and with whomever you feel would like to support or follow his situation.

Or if you'd like to visit Nick, he is currently at the Harlem Hospital Center, 506 Lenox Ave, ICU (6th floor).

Hello Everyone.
Some news on the situation:

1. Thank you: We would like to thank Everyone who has donated money/shared the link to this fundraiser and/or visited Nick in the hospital over these past few days. The support has been overwhelming and a deeply heartening and encouraging aspect to this sad and unfortunate situation. Not to mention, a true testament to Nick as a person and a friend. So, once again, Thank You!

2. Nick’s condition: Progress has been slow but steady. Although he is still sedated, he has been moving his body and has physically responded to the doctors at times, even opening his eyes when asked. He has also been able to breathe on his own without the ventilator, but is still relying on it for support. These are great signs! He is set for surgery this coming week to repair his broken jaw and to move the ventilator to his chest. There is much progress to be made, but his condition has been evolving in a positive direction.

3. The accident: We have learned from the police report that Nick was hit by a car while riding his bike near the George Washington bridge on Monday the 8th. It was not a hit-and-run and has been documented properly. He was wearing a helmet.

Nick has a long road to recovery ahead of him and any form of donation, help or support is deeply valued and appreciated. We will update this page in the future as the situation evolves. For now, all we can do is share our gratitude and continue to believe in Nick and the strength we know him to possess.

Last but not least, a very special Thank You from Kendall (Nick’s daughter) to everyone for their help and support.

We Love You Nick!
